Hi All,

I thought printer manufactures had stopped the stupid practice
of taking firmware out of their printers and putting it into
software (Win printers). But I just came across a specialty
printer that is a win printer that a customer wants networked
to three computers.

Because it is a"win printer and no Ethernet, which does not work
with a win printer anyway, I figure I will have to usb connect
the printer to one of the three workstations and then network
share the win printer.

But it occurred to me, if it is a win printer, will it even
be able to be shared from that workstation?

Thankfully I don't have to deal with non-ethernet printers, that doesn't
mean that HP makes the admin's life easy ... so called "universal"
drivers ... yeah right! Dick about extracting .inf and .cab files from
their installers ...

Got the official name for a "Win Printer": host-rendered printer

ChatGPT thinks it is possible and as it is part of the Windows
print spec. Just use:

Printer Properties → Sharing → Render print jobs on client computers

I specifically request my customers switch to Brother printers.

HP consumer level printers are ....

Their enterprise/business lever are boilerplate and wonderful.

StarTech looked it up for me. It is "host-rendered printer'

I configured out a stripped W11 tiny for them to connect
to it as a print server. $200 on ebay

The cases I remember were about some older Windows.
The prolem was HP driver, able to work only via USB.

Lat HP I had to fight with had is WiFi configured with Blue Tooth.
And it would not. Probably did not like the Mac Book's Blue Tooth configuration or who knows. The printer had an Ethernet jack.
One Ethernet cable and problem solved.
