Davison had his moments, but overall he wasn't that good... but
whoever followed Tom Baker would have found it hard.
JNT taking over as Producer affected the general feel of the
stories as well... and it turned out to be the beginning of the
end.

Regen happened in 1966.
Gallifrey was first menetioned in Warrior
but was seen in since the War Games.

I think I identified with him. He was a good identification
figure for a nerdy kid who didn't have a lot of friends. I
never saw him as pitiful, really. He chose to come, and the
Doctor let him stay.

When that occurs, I usually find that by removing one or

Well, the Doctor is not from Earth is he? He is not human, and
humans can't regenerate when they 'die'. A Time Lord's
physiology is different from ours. So for me, writers are free
to do with a fictional alien what they choose to do... to suit
the need of the story. Right or wrong. Our choice is whether to
keep watching, or not. It's the same with any/every TV show.
So, in "Doctor Who", the producers/writers decided upon
regeneration in one era of the show... in another era they added
a limit to regenerations, in a later era they removed it, in
another era of the show they had a Time Lord being able to try
different bodies out before settling on a final form, and in yet
another era of the show they had Time Lords that gender swapped
upon regeneration... like The General, Missy and then The Doctor.
I say, shows evolve. And for a TV show to last sixty plus years
it needs those layers added to it to remain interesting. That
doesn't mean every lore-changing idea is good... far from it!
But I wouldn't shoot anyone for trying. I don't expect
everything in "Doctor Who" to be consistent with so many
different writers and producers between 1963-2005... I am just
able to ignore the silly excesses. (Of which there are many,
especially lately!)
