Then why do the DW TV Guides make reference to Shada?
No Dave that's not how it goes.
I have said Shada was not made or broadcast, so it cannot be
part of televised Doctor Who canon... this is not something that
can be disputed. It wasn't televised so it's not part of
televised canon. Full stop.
Shada is a story written and partly made in 1979... and finished
[officially] many years later, be it 1992 or 2017 or 2021. (Take
your pick) It exists as a Doctor Who story but it cannot be part
of televised canon if it was not finished or broadcast. The
story exists as an unfinished Season 17 episode. That is how it
is referred to, unfinished.
If the animated Shada is canon does that make the new animated
Doctor Who series canon then? They are both animated adventures
of the Doctor.
Blueshirt wrote:

About half of it had already been filmed.
The original cast then added their voices to the new
animation
and with any luck it should be possible to replace that
with AI generated real life replicas.
The various - now completed - versions of that story were

Well in that case Nightmare of Eden isn't canon either since
the original director left before it was completed.

When that day comes, it will probably look better than the
animation. Which in fairness, wasn't completely bad... the
scenes transition smoothly enough, but it's still mainly a
cartoon at the end of the day.
The older Tom Baker cameo in Shada in 2017 was good though.
It's always fun to see him. Tom was still the star of the show,
even when he's a white haired old man... with a scarf!
As far as I'm concerned the only bits of Shada that count as
part of televised Doctor Who canon are the bits JNT robbed and
put in The Five Doctors.
So the Cambridge location stuff (The Fourth Doctor punting on
the river with Romana, and the two of them running) happened in
The Five Doctors. Because that's what we saw on TV!

Nice try. Nightmare of Eden was finished and broadcast.
There are plenty of quotes from Douglas Adams about what he
thought of Shada... and he wrote it! The animated
reconstructions, the webcast, novelisation and Eighth Doctor
audio reworking happened after he died. So he had absolutely no
input in how any of them turned out. The reason he reused the
best bits for HHGTTG and Dirk gently was because Shada wasn't
finished and he didn't intend it to be!
A good behind the scenes magazine for the Shada stuff is "Doctor

it's there somewhere and it's well worth a read.

I did an overview based on my memory of watching the two Shada
discs in the 'Doctor Who Collection' Season 17 Blu-ray set when
it originally came out. So I am not taking part in AGA's rewatch.
I sat through everything back then as it was the first time I
could do the whole lot in one go... so being a Doctor Who nerd,
that's what I did. Still, my overview covered the best bits,
which as always are Tom's Doctor and Romana.
The really sad thing is, there's only one more season of the

I did an overview based on my memory of watching the two Shada
discs in the 'Doctor Who Collection' Season 17 Blu-ray set when
it originally came out. So I am not taking part in AGA's rewatch.

It wasn't really a review, just my thoughts... what I liked

If we are doing our season rewatch in broadcast order, The
Horns of Nimon was followed by The Leisure Hive.

Well, kind of... we never actually saw the actual War Doctor ->
9th Doctor regeneration happen on-screen in The Day of the
Doctor, as Christopher Eccleston didn't want to return to the
show. But the implication was there.
They are the same Time Lord though regardless of what people
call them, or what we saw/didn't see.

we already there?? ;-P
That's what RADW stands for; Repetitiveness About Doctor Who!
If a discussion hasn't already been done here ten times... it
isn't worth doing.

Which raises the question .....
"If a discussion hasn't already been done here ten times" ... how do we discus it the first nine times so that we can discuss it the tenth time??

If you pitch it right, a brand-new observation can sound old and
tired.

It doesn't raise any questions... unless English comprehension
wasn't your best subject at school.
Which clearly it wasn't!

Try again.

Cough... Splutter... A brand new observation? Here in the
goldfish bowl of RADW?
I don't think I've seen one of them here for years!
Usually it's the same ol' people, saying the same ol' things.
But that's probably why we all love it here... RADW is like a
comfy pair of slippers to come home to.

Is this BS or AGA responding to Dannyboy?

Agamemnon has gone soft in his old age... he's even giving
10/10 ratings to Doctor Who episodes. That's almost unheard
of here! He's probably sitting reading this now with his cat
on his lap stroking it like the big softie he is.
Somebody needs to take on the cranky old curmudgeon role here
until AGA gets back into the swing of things... probably when
the kids cartoon is released or the BBC announce that they are
increasing the TV licence fee by £25 (Whichever event happens
first!)
So, I nominate myself.
Now f*k off and leave me alone, the Champions League is on in
a mo...

That sounds like a challenge.
Watch this space. It may take a while.

Well done Aggy!
I have some Peter Davison "Doctor Who Collection" Blu-ray
sets (Limited Edition packaging)... What are you offering?

Aren't you supposed to ask what you want in exchange for them?
I think I will keep my Tom Baker VHS tapes. How about a Logitech mouse
and keyboard? The mouse has one of its pads missing and the A and bottom
and right arrow key letting is completely worn off the keyboard and the
S half worn off.

I got over €150 for the original Season 17 Blu-ray Collection
set in Limited Packaging a year or so ago... I then got the S17
standard packaging version on Amazon for around forty Euro,
give or take some change... A nice profit.
I'm not sure the 'Limited Edition' Peter Davison sets will be
worth as much though... especially with all that dodgy AI
processing some of those stories have been blighted with.
I think I will keep my Tom Baker VHS tapes.
The Blu-ray sets are a lot better! Tons of extras.
How about a Logitech mouse and keyboard?
I think the Davison sets would fetch a bit more than a Logitech
mouse and keyboard...
Maybe throw in a mouse mat and a screen cleaner or something, to
bring your offer to a suitable swapping level.
Or maybe I should just buy a Tom Baker boxed set like
you suggested and Amazon will give me free shipping.
