If only the series had ended with Shada and not The Horns
of Nimon.
According to Wikipedia the story was first broadcast in the
US on 19 July 2018, therefore it counts as canon.
Brilliant, simply brilliant!
If this story had been completed and broadcast it would have been the
best story of Season 17!
The Doctor travels to Cambridge in 1979 to visit an old friend, another
Time Lord he knows as Professor Chronotis, taking Romana along with him
for a sight seeing trip along Cambridge's colleges and canals.
Meanwhile Skagra has robbed the minds of all of the scientists who were >members of the Think Tank, which he created, and then travelled to Earth
in order to find Salyavin in order to rob him of his mind too, using the >Mind Sphere which he has built, so as to gain the ability of not only
taking other people's minds and making them part of his own, but also to >project his mind into the minds of everyone in the Universe and thus
create a Universal Mind making it all a part of himslef.
Salyavin is imprisoned on the Time Lord's prison planet Shada, which >everyone has forgotten about, and in order to find Shada, Skagra needs a >dangerous forgotten book taken from Gallifrey by Professor Chronotis, on
his retirement from the College of Cardinals, and who is now residing in >rooms at Cambridge University.
Unfortunately the aforementioned book has becomes lost from the
possession of the Professor after he offered to lend graduate student
Chris Parsons some books and Parsons accidentality took it while
Chronitis was making some tea.
In the college's physics lab Parsons discovers that the book contains >writing in an unknown script and when he turns the pages time starts
moving in strange ways and the clock in the room starts acting funny.
He therefore subjects it to various tests which give anomalous results, >including carbon dating it to an age of -20,000 years, and finally when
he tries to use X-ray tomography on it, it causes the X-ray machine to
blow up.
Chris calls his friend and colleague Clare Knightley to discuss the >anomalies with and they meet in the lab, after which he leaves her there
to examine the book and cycles back to Professor Chronotis' room almost >bumping into the Doctor cycling in the other direction trying to
retrieve the book along the way.
The Doctor arrives at the lab and takes the book from Clare, but Skagra
is on his tracks and picks up the book after it falls out of the basket
on his bike while chasing him. He then sends his Mind Sphere to take the >Doctor's mind believing it contains the key to the code the writing in
the book is written in.
Prior to this Skagra has confronted Professor Chronitis in his room and >taken a copy of Chronitis mind which causes him to begin to die.
Clare looking for Chris finds Chronotis lying on the floor and after >arriving with Chris, Romana uses K9 to communicate with Chronits'
autonomic brain which causes his heard to beat out a message in Time
Lord morse code warning them about Skagra, the book, and Shada.
After being chased Doctor narrowly escapes having his mind taken after >Romana locates him in the TARDIS and takes him back to Chronitis' room
where Chronotis' body fades out of existence in front of them.
The Doctor, Romana, and Chris go to look for Skagra and Skagra lures
them into his invisible space ship parked on a grass verge after
unfurling a red carpet to help them make the way to the invisible entrance.
Inside the ship the Doctor is separated from Romana and Chris by the
ships computer and held on the ship by Skagra who uses his Mind Sphere
again to successfully take a copy of the Doctor's mind and the Doctor is >left for dead.
Skagra then takes Romana from the cell she and Chris have been
transmatted into and then steals the TARDIS taking her inside along with
the book, thinking she can decode it, which he discovers can be used in >conjunction with the TARDIS to take him to Shada since time flows over
it as the pages are turned and when he turns the last page the TARDIS
will arrive on Shada.
Back onboard Skagra's ship the Doctor wakes up with his mind intact
since he pretended to the Mind Sphere that he was completely stupid so
it didn't take his entire mind away thus killing him, but just a copy,
which Skagra now has access to and which is how he could operate the
TARDIS himself.
The Doctor convinces Skagra's ship's computer which thinks he's dead
that he is still dead and therefore not an enemy of Skagra. He then
tells it to let Chris go free but the computer thinking that the Doctor
is dead cuts off the air supply to the Doctor since dead men don't need
to breath.
Fortunately Chris has been released and when he makes his way to the
control room, where the Doctor is, the computer reinstates the air
supply since Chris needs air to breath and unlike the Doctor he is not dead.
The Doctor then upgrades the ship's propulsion system by creating a >rudimentary dimensional stabiliser from its existing circuits so that it
can take him to Shagra's last location in the same manner as the TARDIS >travels though space.
Meanwhile in Professor Chronitis' room Clare has discovered a secret
panel in one of the bookshelves which reveals a set of controls which
she starts messing around with. It turns out that the room is another
TARDIS which Chronitis' rescued from the scrap yards of Gallifrey after
he retired and used it to go to Earth, where he spent the last 300 years
at the same Cambridge college without anyone noticing.
The time field created by Chrontis TARDIS interfered with the
functioning of the Mind Sphere and thus enabled Chronotis, who was on
his last regeneration, to reappear out of nothing behind Clare as if he
had never passed away. Chronotis thanks Clare for saving his live since
if she had not messed around with the controls and muddled up the flow
of time he would have died. He then transfers part of his mind to
Clare's so as to enable her to help him repair his ship, telling her not
to tell anyone about what he was about to do.
The Doctor then gets Skagra's ship's computer to take the upgraded ship
to the last location it was at, which turns out to be the Think Tank.
Inside the Think Tank the Doctor and Chris find the greatest scientists
of their time, who voluntarily took part in Skagra's experiments, but
now all with their minds robbed, but still alive, unable to commutate.
He then uses Chris's mind to allow what's left of their faculties to >communicate through him and finds out what has been happening, but it's
no use in telling them where Skara is now, and they are both attacked by >Krargs who are Skagras servants, but narrowly manage to escape and get
to Skagra's ship and dematerialise before the Krargs cause the Think
Tank to blow up.
Meanwhile on Skagra's mothership Skagra shows Romana the Doctors mind
held by his sphere, and realises the Doctor didn't know the code the
pages of the book were encrypted in after all. He then takes Romana with
him to Shada.
Back on Skagra's small ship Chris prompts the Doctor to take the ship to >Skagra's base, but the Doctor doesn't know where that is, but the
computer of course does, and since it can't to take them to Skagra
perhaps it will take them to his base instead, and it does.
Meanwhile Professor Chronotis and Clare have used his TARDIS to trace
the Doctor's TARDIS to the mothership and now also onboard the same ship
the Doctor and Chris stumble upon the door to Chronotis' room and enter. >Chronitis then takes them to Shada where they encounter Skagra and a
Krarg holding Romana captive.
Skagra opens the door to Salyavin's cell but there is no one there. The >Doctor then realises that given what he did to Clare, enhancing her mind >with his, that Professor Chronitis is Salyavin.
Skagra then attaches his Mind Spere to Salyavin's mind and takes a copy
of it rendering Salyavin unconscious. K9 blasts the Mind Sphere but it >re-forms into many copies of itself.
Skagra then transfers his mind and those from the sphere into the minds
of the criminals imprisoned on Shada, which he has now released, so they
can do his bidding as the first step towards creating the Universal Mind >with the minds of everyone in the Universe, and goes after the Doctor,
K9, and Romana, who escape to Chrontis' TARDIS, Chris already having his >mind taken by Skagra and put under the control of the Mind Sphere.
With the help of Romana and Clare the Doctor manages to get from
Chronotis' TARDIS into his own TARDIS by surfing though the Space-Time
Votex entering through the back door. Falling directly into his workshop
he then builds himself a mind control helmet.
Skagra with his Krarg has now landed the Doctor's TARDIS on his
mothership, but the Doctor, to Skagra's surprise, appears behind him
from his own TARDIS and not at the door of Chronotis' TARDIS after he >whistles for K9 to come out to meet Skagra's demand.
K9, Romana, and Clare fight the Krags, while the Doctor wearing his
newly made Mind Helmet uses it to control the villains, directing them
to attack Skagra, since they all contains copies of the Doctor's mind
from the Mind Sphere enabling him to influence them.
Skagra fights back with his mind but is overwhelmed and defeated. He
flees to his small ship but the ship's computer imprisons him, in a
small cell, since it now only recognises the Doctor as its master
because of everything he has done to benefit it.
The Doctor then returns the minds to all the individuals they were taken >from including Professor Chronotis.
Back in Cambridge the Doctor reads out a book to Clare, Chris, Romana
and Chronotis, in Chronotis' room, as the doorman and a police officer
enter after the doorman claimed that when he went to Chronotis' room the >night before, nothing stood there but and empty blue void. The police >officer thinks the doorman is drunk or still high from a party the night >before, which the others all imply had happened, but the police officer
then notices a Police Public Call Box in the room and decides to haul >everyone in to the police station for questioning.
The Doctor and Romana make it inside the TARDIS just in time and it >dematerialises in front of everyone, astonishing the cop.
Inside the TARDIS, while repairing the console with K9, the Doctor
explains to Romana that Skagra was a supporter of a rival college of >Cardinals that left Gallifrey for his home planet when Salyavin was
still young.
He then tells Romana that the Time Lords of the time had made up all the
stuff surrounding Salyavin as propaganda and she remarks that after
meeting him Salyavin wasn't really as bad as he was made out to be.
K9 attempts to operate one of the controls and an explosion occurs.
The Doctor stands up and adjusts the knobs and dials on the console, >appearing as he was in 2017, and says to Romana that in a few hundred
years people will also remark to themselves, what harm could the Doctor >possibly do, he looks like a nice old man.
Great acting from all of the cast especially Denis Carey as Professor >Chronitis. The voices of the Doctor and Romana in the animated parts
sound much older than they were back in 1979 but you soon get used to
them. Daniel Hill who played Chris Parsons sounded almost identical as
did Christopher Neame who played Skagra.
In Shada, instead of the villain wanting to control the Universe he
wants to turn the Universe into himself. But if you look at it more
deeply the Universe will not just be his mind but also the minds of
everyone all combined into one, hence the Universal Mind. But it will
still be Skagra controlling all of those minds to create whatever he
wants them to create for his own pleasure rather than who is best for
the Universe as a whole, but what is best for the Universe as a whole >anyway? So that it can be understood better with all minds being focused
on science and mathematics? If Skagra just wanted to control others then
he didn't need to posses their minds. All he needed was Salyavin's
powers alone, so it has to be more than that.
There was plenty of discussion by Douglas Adams in this story about >computer's succumbing to false logic, following on from the theme
present in Destiny of the Daleks about computers forcing themselves into >stalemate by adhering to only logic.
There was also lots of great dialogue and humorous moments, and the
Doctor and Romana played off each other very well.
If only the series had ended with Shada and not The Horns of Nimon.
According to Wikipedia the story was first broadcast in the US on 19
July 2018, therefore it counts as canon. Other more recent Doctor Who >stories have contained animated segments and there have also been
several David Tennant animated stories which no one has claimed are not
part of canon.
Watching the 6-part episodic version which came out in 2021 compared to
the omnibus version which came out in 2017 felt closer to how Doctor Who >looked and felt like had it been aired as originally planned. It also >reminded me of when I read the original script that came with the VHS >version narrated by Tom Baker.
AI may eventually be able to create a full live action version of the >animated parts of the story, assuming the actors all give their consent.
Shada would have been considered to be an absolute classic had it been >screened in 1980 as was originally planned and scheduled.

play with all the other kids. What kind of fucking sick disgusting
pervert would want to make a show like that?

We can't say it's impossible, can we? He has regenerated into
people of different apparent ages.
I'm trying to remember when we've seen Gallifreyan children. I
recall a few flashbacks of the Doctor and the Master as boys.
They were young in Gallifreyan terms as well as visually.
Overall, it probably wouldn't work.

Yes it does.
A good exmple is Brad Boimler, from Star Trek: Lower Decks. In
the cartoon, he's drawn with purple hair. In the live-action
crossover with Strange New Worlds, we see that he has black hair.
They gave him a purple rinse just for fun, but they didn't dye
his hair purple to match the cartoon. The blue/purple tones are
undertones on real hair.
Harnell did have dark hair as a younger man. I doubt they care

I just looked up some pictures of him, and he did have lighter
hair as a young man. It was dark in his middle age, though.
Perhaps he dyed it, or perhaps it darkened.

I don't think the animated series will follow the show's canon
in a linear way... as in, have any TV Doctor regenerate into a
kid... the series is for pre-schoolers, so the people making it
are not going to throw a lot of the show's baggage at children
that age, especially in episodes that short. I think, it'll just
be a kid called the Doctor with his TARDIS team fighting fluffy
cartoon aliens... I don't think the kid with the spiky blue hair
will have any direct reference to any specific Doctor from the
show's televised canon.
I won't be watching it either way so somebody here will have to
let us know exactly how this kid IS the Doctor. Who here wants
to volunteer to watch it so that I don't have to?
AI-Doc seems a more exciting proposition to me than Cartoon-Doc.

Well... maybe if he hadn't been dead for forty years!
But on the actual issue, I doubt the writing in the cartoon
series will be anything too high-brow. Judging be the age
group that the series is aimed at, I'd say it will be very
simplistic. I don't think there will be too many info dumps
of technobabble or Doctors reversing the polarity...

Yeah, it definitely doesn't make a lot of sense, but it's what
happens to widely recognizable characters. Lots of kids like
familiar things.
I watched some of the preschool version of SpongeBob
SquarePants out of sheer bemusement. It had almost nothing to
do with the original cartoon.
The characters had the names and appearances of the originals,
but there was nothing resembling a plot, much less any jokes.
It was just a show with familiar characters doing stuff.

The episodes won't be long enough for anything too detailed.
"Doctor Who: Tardis Crew" is scheduled to be 52 x 11 minute
episodes.
With titles and end credits I assume that means ten minutes of
story.
Wash!! Rinse!! Repeat!!
I doubt they will mention that the characters have changed
their location from one City to another, let alone from one
Planet to another.
The 'Guest' characters can look (slightly) different .... just
like Aunts and Uncles look different the next time you see
them.
There will plenty of different characters... more characters
means more fluffy toys to sell!
If the series takes off, SpikyTop-Doc figures could be in demand
for Christmas 2029!
Oh, and cute fluffy Daleks too...

Pre-schoolers don't need a Doctor Who series with cuddly

a fluffy environment and a simple story... Oh, and keep it
low-stim. Making it a Doctor Who cartoon makes no sense to me,

Terry Nation will be turning in his grave.
Yeah, it definitely doesn't make a lot of sense, but it's what
happens to widely recognizable characters. Lots of kids like
familiar things.
I watched some of the preschool version of SpongeBob SquarePants
out of sheer bemusement. It had almost nothing to do with the
original cartoon. The characters had the names and appearances of
the originals, but there was nothing resembling a plot, much less
any jokes. It was just a show with familiar characters doing
stuff.
My son liked Dora and Diego at that age. Both are a little better
than most preschooler shows. I'd recommmend reruns of those, or
(better yet) keep kids away from the boob tube until they're a
little older. I suspect most of these preschool shows are more >brain-melters.

At that age, Doctor Who, Daleks and Cybermen shouldn't be that
familiar to them...

Yeah, and I think some in fandom will watch Tardis Crew with

as that's what it says on the tin.

I suspect Tardis Crew won't have a lot in common with the
original show either, bar having more kiddie friendly versions
of the main character(s) and the [supposed] monsters.... that
will surely now be cute and cuddly versions.
It's not for me... and The Clone Wars it ain't... but I hope the
kiddies enjoy the experience anyway. Maybe they'll grow up and
take over from us on RADW after being indoctrinated into the
show at such an early age?!

I'm happy to go with anything after Tom Baker not being canon.
Doctor Who finished in 1980!
Which quality wise isn't far off the mark anyway.
Anyone who claims that Jon Pertwee isn't canon needs a good
beating though.
Then you need to beat Daniel.
Sorry!! When have I ever stated that Jon Pertwee was not Canon.
Several times I've stated that I haven't SEEN much of Jon but I KNOW he
was in T.V. "Doctor Who". No "If's", "but's" or "maybe's"!!

That's because it was made during the 'wilderness years' when
sad anorak Doctor Who fans would grab and worship anything with
the "Doctor Who" tag on it. Even if it was taking the piss out
of the show they claim to love.
Even a lump of shit with a Doctor Who label on it would have
been adored by some in fandom... just how some fans are going
to wet themselves when the new "Tardis Crew" series launches...
People often reference it, at least.
People? As in, the nerdy Doctor Who fans who have run out of
train locomotive numbers to write down in their note pads?

Anyone can rewatch any Doctor Who stories that they want to,
the week is seven days long. Okay, there is a little thing
called life, but most of us check-in here most days so
contributing our thoughts to anyone else's thoughts of any
episode isn't a hard task.

Breaking News:
They had paedo priests serving on missions in Ethiopia in
the 1980's too.
Poor African nations were ripe hunting grounds for those
types of predators and 'white saviours' that used their faith
to exploit and abuse the weak and vulnerable. Religion is just
an excuse for deviancy and perversion.
I'd burn the lot of 'em.--
