A pointless waste of money. They not going to get anyone as good as
David Suchet was in the role and we really do not need to see the same
stories yet again.
BBC set to reboot iconic crime series
with "greatest detective in the world" - here's what we know
------------------------------------------------------------
It's expected to air next year.
The BBC is set to air a new adaptation of Agatha Christie's
novels featuring the legendary Belgian sleuth Hercule Poirot.
The new reimagining, set to air next year, will feature the
latest incarnation of the detective most famously played by
David Suchet.
The British broadcaster has secured the rights in a highly
competitive bidding war, Deadline reports. As Christie's
adaptations continue to take centre stage - earlier this year
Netflix streamed Agatha Christie's Seven Dials based on the
book of the same name - the BBC has undertaken a "significant
commitment" with the upcoming reboot, which might be comprised
of up to three seasons.
The BBC declined to comment on the new Poirot adaptation when
approached by Digital Spy.
As season 1 is expected to premiere in the second half of 2027,
it was also revealed that writer Benji Walters is overseeing
the reboot. Walters is known for Noughts + Cross and a Luca
Guadagnino's Brideshead Revisited adaptation that never
materialised.
Scripts for the adaptation, produced with Agatha Christie
Limited, are being kept under wraps as the series is expected
to start filming in Liverpool and the north-west of England
over the summer.
Producing for the BBC is Mammoth Screen, which previously
brought to life the broadcaster's Christie adaptations,
including And Then There Were None and Murder is Easy. Mammoth
founder Damien Timmer also served as executive producer on
several episodes of ITV's long-running series Poirot starring
Suchet.
More recently played by Kenneth Branagh in film adaptations
Murder on the Orient Express, Death on the Nile and A Haunting
in Venice, the role of Poirot is set to attract significant
interest as casting is under way.
The self-proclaimed "greatest detective in the world" was also
played by John Malkovich in the 2018 limited series The ABC
Murders, which was also produced by Mammoth.
On the big screen, Felicity Jones has recently been announced
to take on the role of crime novelist Christie in thriller
Eleven Missing Days, which chronicles the author's
disappearance in 1926.
While it won't be featuring Christie's most famous investigator,
the film is set to star Vincent Cassel as a Belgian police
detective who's roped out of retirement to work the case, with
the character mirroring Poirot.
