Picture this: You're Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Chief of Defense
Staff (the rank of our top soldier running the Canadian Armed Forces)
tells you that recruitment is terrible and the number of troops is
steadily declining.
Plus, since you've allowed migration in mass numbers, the immigrants have felt >no need to assimilate, adopt your culture, and have instead just recreated the >home country in ethnic enclaves resulting in none of them having any feelings >of loyalty or of 'being Canadian', so they won't very inclined to fight for >Canada should the need arise.
Anybody who regularly watches British political sites on Youtube knows
that's very much the case across the pond at least as much if not more
so than Canada.
I personally think it's an extremely bad thing since it means 50+% of
a larger immigration base is coming from two countries (China and
India) and India in particular has all kinds of intermural ethnic
rivalries.
As Prime Minister, you promised to increase
expenditures on the military during the last election. Clearly you have
to do something, but what?
As I've said before, I'd welcome doubling the Canadian military budget
if it included Naval bases in the high Arctic especially if the
straights between the North American mainland and the Arctic
Archipelago became ice-free - which would encourage use of these
routes by all sorts of powers as a quick way to get from Europe to
East Asia and vice versa.
I'm not so much worried about Britain and the EU (most of whom are
NATO members anyhow) but China and Russia who are much less reserved
about emptying their bilges in other countries' waters.
