There's no disagreement on her being mentally ill. The question was
she undergoing a psychotic episode that led to the deaths. I don't
think there's anyway to be sure in this case so it's going to come
down to how good a job the two sides of lawyers does.

More to the point, they can't decide that regardless of her conveniently-timed
mental illness, that she doesn't deserve to be taken out back of the courthouse and dismembered piece-by-piece.

Conveniently timed? How in the world do you figure that?
She asked for help, over and over again. She asked to be
committed to an institution, repeatedly. She was finally admitted
and quickly hustled back out -- she told them they shouldn't
discharge her, but they did. She told her own doctor that she
wasn't safe.
There is documentation of this. It's wrong to act like she just
got mad and killed her kids and then cooked up a story to get out
of it. That's not what happened.
IMO, a mental hospital is the right place for her. She asked for
it herself. It's too late for the real benefit now, but it's
still the right place for her.

My girlfriend is just disgusted with this whole case, especially the crowds of
women standing outside the courthouse cheering for this demented bitch. She points out that women have been fighting a battle to prove their worth and ability to participate in society at an equal level with men for the past 50 years. Except now, it's like, "We can do anything men can do, except sometimes
our hormones will literally take over our entire free will and turn us into murderous psychopaths."
If y'all's hormones are so intense that they can run you out of your own mind enough to slaughter your family, then there's no way on god's green earth, any
of you should be in a position like, say, president of the United States, with
access to a planet-killing nuclear arsenal. One bad hormone surge and suddenly
Canada is aglow.
Are there the occasional male family annihilators, too? Absolutely. And when that happens, we throw them in a deep dark hole for the rest of their lives and/or execute them. You don't see legions of men forming support rings around
the courthouse and claiming the killer should be relieved of culpability because his testosterone was too high or something.
What's telling to me is this woman's behavior *after* she came out of this alleged delusional state.
For the sake of argument, let's imagine something like this murderous daze were to actually happen. So put yourself into this fictional nightmare scenario, the one Clancy's lawyer and her legions of crazed female defenders want us to imagine.
You just killed your three defenseless children through no conscious fault of your own. You realize you just brutally murdered your three kids even if you didn't mean to. What do you do next? If you're an actual loving mother who just suddenly woke up from a temporary psychosis and realized what you'd done,
there are a few steps you'd immediately take without any doubt.
First you'd try to revive your children, even it's a clearly a hopeless situation, because that would be the immediate reaction of any loving parent who regained their senses and found themselves in the middle of this horrifying scene.
Next, you would call the police. You would explain the urgency of the situation to the 911 operator. That's a given. And once you were confident that the first responders were on the way, you would do one of two things.
One possibility is that you would kill yourself with a rage and determination an order of magnitude greater than your unconscious psychotic evil self had used to kill your children. Or you would remain alive, determined to face justice for the atrocity you committed.
And when I say face justice, I mean you wouldn't plead not guilty and go to trial. I mean, you would admit to it all, make no excuses or offer any justifications, and beg the court to give you the harshest possible penalty. You would forgo a trial entirely. You wouldn't contest your guilt because you'd know you were guilty and deserved to pay the price. You'd also want to spare your spouse and family, who you have also grievously and permanently wounded, the grotesquerie of a long, highly-publicized trial. A trial where your spouse would be demonized and targeted with conspiracy theories by hordes
of retarded feminist TikTok zombies. You would simply plead guilty and go to prison in shame and repentance.
No actual loving parent would even want to go on living a 'normal life' out in
society after having done something like this. You wouldn't fight for your freedom. You wouldn't *desire* freedom. You wouldn't desire anything other than to crawl into the darkest hole in the prison that they could give you and
just die as quickly as possible.
A loving parent on the other side of a catastrophe like this couldn't ever find joy or purpose in their life ever again. A loving parent would hate themselves far more than anyone else could possibly hate them and want to see themselves punished accordingly.
But Lindsay Clancy, strangely enough, did not take any of these actions after allegedly coming out of her hormonal fugue. At every point, she did the opposite.
In the midst if committing the murders, she calmly took a phone call from her husband (whom she had sent away on an errand, demonstrating that she was not out of her mind at the time; this was all planned with malice aforethought), conversed with him normally about mundanities, and then resumed strangling her
children to death after she hung up.
After completing the murders and allegedly emerging from her hormonal haze, she did not attempt to revive her children and she did not call the police or emergency services. She did not even pick them up and put them in their beds, at least giving them some kind of dignity in death. No, she left them face down on a cold basement floor. This "loving mother".
Then, having strangled three children to death in a methodical, systematic, determined manner with exercise bands that collapsed their airways and forced their eyes to bulge from their heads, she suddenly became tentative and apprehensive when attempting to commit her own suicide. She cut herself superficially with a knife and for her grand finale, she jumped out of a 2nd-story window into a pile of snow. True, she paralyzed herself (which may turn out to be the only real semblance of justice that emerges from all this),
but it's an interesting contrast how brutally successful she was in ending her
children's lives with the half-assed incompetence she displayed when trying to
end her own. Immediately after snuffing the life out of one child after another with a cold efficiency that would give Hannibal Lecter chills, she suddenly transformed into a bumbling incompetent who simply couldn't figure out a way to die.
And then for several years, she has waged a campaign to free herself and minimize, if not eliminate, her culpability in the triple homicide she committed. She hired the fanciest defense attorney she could find. When asked by the media how Clancy is doing, he's said multiple times that she's "nervous
and scared about the verdict". What would an actual loving mother be nervous or scared about in this situation? That would be the reaction of someone hoping to not be found guilty. Why would a loving mother who knows what she did have any desperate hopes for her future at all? At a minimum, wouldn't you
be indifferent to the jury's verdict since your life is ruined and you're in a
living hell no matter what outcome of the trial?
But she does have hopes for the future, she doesn't believe she's culpable, because she's a stone-cold psychopath. And she should be treated like one.

If that's the case, how do we prevent this from happening again?
Maybe we need, God help us, hotlines. "Are you thinking of
hurting your family? Here's an understanding ear." The volunteers
listen and provide local resources, like suicide hotline
volunteers.
If I were on the jury, I doubt I could keep from adjusting my verdict to effect whatever constitutes maximum certainty that she'll be permanently removed from society ...though that'd probably violate instruction.

More to the point, they can't decide that regardless of her
conveniently-timed
mental illness, that she doesn't deserve to be taken out back of the
courthouse and dismembered piece-by-piece.
Conveniently timed? How in the world do you figure that?
I already went through it all in my other post in this thread.
She asked for help, over and over again. She asked to be
committed to an institution, repeatedly. She was finally admitted
and quickly hustled back out -- she told them they shouldn't
discharge her, but they did. She told her own doctor that she
wasn't safe.
Which means she knew what she was doing. If she didn't think she was safe >around the kids, why didn't she go to her parents or stay with friends or go >to a hotel?
There is documentation of this. It's wrong to act like she just
got mad and killed her kids and then cooked up a story to get out
of it. That's not what happened.
IMO, a mental hospital is the right place for her. She asked for
it herself. It's too late for the real benefit now, but it's
still the right place for her.
No, she needs to be in prison for life and then buried beneath it.

No, it does not. It definitely does *not* mean that she had a
plan and knew what she was doing and set out to see it through.
It means pretty much the opposite: that she knew she wasn't under
control, had already spun out, and desperately wanted someone
else to prevent her from acting out the horrible visions that
wouldn't leave her head.
She certainly needs to be confined and supervised, and there may
well be no treatment for her, but it's not right to act as if she
were just evil. This isn't a Susan Smith case. She tried, and
don't forget that she had to use a sick mind to figure out how to
seek help. It's the dilemma of the maybe-Alzheimer's patient,
having to evaluate a deteriorating brain with a deteriorating
brain.
Her husband should perhaps get some scrutiny. Seems like he's
guilty of gross child neglect, given that he knew his wife's
fragile state and didn't send the kids to his mom.
One area where I do agree with you is with the women going on
TikTok to chortle and say that they know how she feels. That's
not funny. If you genuinely know how she feels, you too need some
responsible supervision. If you don't, stop trying to act like
family annihilation is something a normal person might
understand.
I don't see how to blame anyone anywhere for failing to prevent an act
that lies beyond comprehension. Even the professionals who sent her
home must surely have had their world views obliterated by this.

out of her mind at the time; this was all planned with malice aforethought),
conversed with him normally about mundanities, and then resumed strangling

But she does have hopes for the future, she doesn't believe she's culpable,
because she's a stone-cold psychopath. And she should be treated like one.
You're trying to intuit her state of mind at various points. I think
that's a herculean task ...and maybe even one nobody should attempt.
Fine, then let's just judge her on her actions alone and throw her into a pit
and forget about her.
Do that, but -- and this is the trick for a civilized society -- do it >without rancor. (And I assure you I'm as horrified by her as you are.)

She asked for help, over and over again. She asked to be
committed to an institution, repeatedly. She was finally
admitted and quickly hustled back out -- she told them they
shouldn't discharge her, but they did. She told her own
doctor that she wasn't safe.
Which means she knew what she was doing.
No, it does not. It definitely does *not* mean that she had a
plan and knew what she was doing and set out to see it through.
It means pretty much the opposite: that she knew she wasn't
under control, had already spun out, and desperately wanted
someone else to prevent her from acting out the horrible visions
that wouldn't leave her head.
She certainly needs to be confined and supervised, and there may
well be no treatment for her, but it's not right to act as if
she were just evil. This isn't a Susan Smith case. She tried,
and don't forget that she had to use a sick mind to figure out
how to seek help. It's the dilemma of the maybe-Alzheimer's
patient, having to evaluate a deteriorating brain with a
deteriorating brain.
Her husband should perhaps get some scrutiny. Seems like he's
guilty of gross child neglect, given that he knew his wife's
fragile state and didn't send the kids to his mom.
One area where I do agree with you is with the women going on
TikTok to chortle and say that they know how she feels. That's
not funny. If you genuinely know how she feels, you too need
some responsible supervision. If you don't, stop trying to act
like family annihilation is something a normal person might
understand.
I don't see how to blame anyone anywhere for failing to prevent an
act that lies beyond comprehension. Even the professionals who
sent her home must surely have had their world views obliterated
by this.
That sounds like an attempt to excuse the murder of three children
by their mother.
What a sad world we live in.
