• [OT] Women can be topless at Canadian beaches

    From Rhino@no_offline_contact@example.com to rec.arts.tv on Thu Sep 3 13:26:17 2026
    From Newsgroup: rec.arts.tv

Police who told a woman sunbathing topless at a Canadian beach that she
had to cover up have issued an apology to the woman. They've agreed that there's nothing illegal about women going topless.

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/sj-police-apologize-after-woman-told-to-cover-up-9.7329552

They rightfully cite the case of Gwen Jacobs from 30 years ago which effectively established that women may indeed go topless in public as
long as it isn't for a sexual purpose.

Strip clubs have been around for a long time and are legal although they
seem to be much scarcer than 50 years ago. I remember going on pub
crawls in residence that made a point of going to strip clubs and there
were several around. I'm not sure if any of the ones we went to back
then are still around. It's a different world now so I suppose people
are as likely to watch porn on the Internet as pay to get into a strip
    club.

Naturally if you notice and look, she'll call a cop.

I am in favor of free nipples.
But I must admit when I first saw the subject line “women can be topless“ my mind sprang unbidden to Angelina Jolie.

The whole Rosie O'Donnell/Dan Aykroyd subplot didn't make a lot of
sense. I never read the book but I seem to recall reading a review that
said that subplot wasn't even in the book and had been grafted in by someone....
