I read reports and watch the occasional video from people I don't agree
with because I want to hear a good argument. A Matt Walsh video came up
from 6/22/2026 about unaffordable housing. Is this guy a housing
advocate with practical ideas?
Sigh. No, he's not.
His problem statements can be reasonable but I don't care for his juxtapositions which can be unfair and support unreasonable conclusions.
He does less of it in this one. I kept waiting to hear recommendations.
He wants crime cleaned up, especially black-on-black violence. Of course
he blames authorities and the media for refusing to state that it's black
on black violence.
Yeah, ok, who doesn't want crime addressed. But that isn't an instant
housing panacea. It'll take years for a bad neighborhood to recover.
He disparaged property taxes and cannot distinguish between unearned
benefit from land value increases (even in undesirable areas) and
maintenance and improvements. He said nothing about building and zoning
codes until timepoint 33 minutes, and comes out against NIMBYs.
At 29:30, it's illegal immigration driving housing demand, failing to
point out the shortage of native-born workers entering building trades
starting with the 2008 housing bubble.
He absolutely ignores that if native workers took the same jobs in the
same local areas with perfect immigration law enforcement that there
would be the same excessive demand versus supply.
He's against inflation and favors the gold standard.
Also, Baby Boomers are at fault. I wouldn't say boomers invented
building and zoning codes. They made the problem worse.
