this show will bear little resemblance to the UK original. The UK show
was silly, but the US version will, as usual, be even worse.



'Modern Family' Duo Sets New Comedy Series 'Mammoth' on Fox

A new live-action comedy series is heading to Fox.

From "Modern Family" co-creator Christopher Lloyd and executive
producer and writer Danny Zuker comes "Mammoth," which is based
on Mike Bubbins' British sitcom of the same name.

Per the description, "'Mammoth' follows Coach Tony Mammoth, a
larger-than-life high school gym teacher whose life is put on
ice in 1983, when he's buried in a freak ski avalanche. Forty
years later, he thaws out to a world that has completely changed
... but he's convinced it really didn't need to. Still clinging
to life in the '80s - complete with his Burt Reynolds moustache
and treasured Trans-AM -- Mammoth returns to the job he loves,
only to discover that today's rules, relationships, and
realities bear little resemblance to the world he once knew."

The show is slated to debut on Fox during the 2027-2028 season.
It marks the network's first live-action comedy series greenlight
in more than two years.

"Mammoth" is produced by Fox Entertainment Studios, with Lloyd
and Zuker serving as writers, showrunners and executive producers.
Mark Linsey and Angie Stephenson of BBC Studios Los Angeles, as
well as Bubbins, are also EPs.

"Tony Mammoth genuinely believes he mastered manhood the first
time around, making his new reality the ultimate wakeup call and
greatest challenge in an otherwise flawless life," said
Christopher Lloyd. "He's charming, wildly self-assured,
hopelessly out of step and, despite his many blind spots,
impossible not to root for." 

Danny Zuker added, "Tony gets the second chance so many people
wish for, only to find that his bravado doesn't quite match his
new reality. We love his shameless confidence, his fascination with
a world he barely recognizes, and the big heart underneath it all.
He's a lot. We can't wait to bring him to Fox."

Sounds like the basic idea is to tell GenX what bad people we
were and perhaps are.

Sounds like the basic idea is to tell GenX what bad people we
were and perhaps are.

Is the character supposed to be 30? In the United States, that's
literally a Baby Boomer. But in the UK? For them, the post WWII
recession never exactly ended. I don't see how a high school coach could
have afforded a muscle car.

Is the character supposed to be 30? In the United States, that's

recession never exactly ended. I don't see how a high school coach could

He would literally be a Boomer, but if that's how he's being
portrayed, they're taking square aim at GenX. We're the ones who
were teenagers while those things were popular among adults, and
we're (in some cases) the ones nostalgic for the 80s.

UK cultural generations are offset from ours, so I don't know
what generation he's supposed to be there.
