Some HOA Karen says, "Hold my beer."

    From r/mildlyinfuriating:

    Dear residents,

I hope this letter finds you well. As we approach the Halloween season, the Board has been discussing ways to create a consistent and positive
experience for the children in our community who go trick-or-treating.

This year, the Association is encouraging all residents to hand out
fun-size candy bars only. We are asking that full-size candy bars not be distributed. This request is intended to help keep the experience
consistent throughout the neighborhood and to avoid situations where some
homes feel pressure to match larger offerings.

We appreciate your cooperation with this request and thank you for helping
make Halloween enjoyable for the families in our community.

    -------------------

I remember when I was a kid, the one thing I wanted more than anything else
on Halloween was a consistent and uniform experience.

Halloween is extortion. If the kids found the offering at one home
inadequate, they didn't complain to the HOA. They got revenge REVENGE!
    That's who got toilet papered.

I'm surprised that the request/demand is as moderate as it is. I
wouldn't have been remotely surprised to see them insist on only
"healthy, nutritious food" with a suggested list that included kale and excluded everything containing sugar, chocolate, and any of the other
stuff we loved to get when we were kids.

My mom was heartbroken when her neighborhood got too old and didn’t have

I used to decorate the heck out of my house and would attract kids from all over. And then the drunken adults would show up and steal the decorations.
But I haven’t been able to decorate the last few years and I watched the
kids walking down the cross street but they don’t turn down my street anymore.

I guess that's one benefit of living in a neighborhood with lots of
immigrants. There are quite a few kids in the area. Though not so much

I'm amazed there are other parents who care about the size of the

especially if the parents doubled up on the half sized candy bars.

I can understand that. When I was growing up, virtually all of the
families had school-age kids. I never quite imagined that that would
ever change although I suppose it is inevitable. Families nowadays have considerably fewer kids when they do have kids and lots of
neighbourhoods have very few kids in them. I'm a little surprised my supermarket carries as much Halloween candy as it does....

In the summer I used to get a few kids soliciting me to mow my yard,
    that never happens anymore.

I must have some lazy-assed kids in my neighborhood, lol.

I guess that's one benefit of living in a neighborhood with lots of immigrants. There are quite a few kids in the area. Though not so much
trick or treating with so many people working second jobs.

Do most immigrants participate in Halloween? I don't think there are
many countries that even have Halloween. A friend in France once told me
that they had some stores selling Halloween stuff but that it wasn't a tradition there. And that's Europe; I can't picture the average Asian or African doing Halloween.

The cops block off the three blocks of my town's restaurant row and
everyone brings their kids to get candy left out by the businesses. The restaurants love it because the families all stop in for pizza or burgers
or whatever. Usually draws about 500 people for a few hours.

    That's a real bummer. I haven't been getting any either, but I
thought it was because I've been living in apartment complexes.

I liked trick-or-treating as a kid, and I liked handing out candy
as an adult. I wish we had *more* remaining cultural customs in
which we interacted with our neighbors.
