Alberta had a series of referenda on 10 key issues yesterday; the first
of those was whether to have a binding referendum on leaving Canada. In
other words, they were asked whether they even wanted to have a vote on leaving Canada. 75% of Albertans said NO, they don't want a separation referendum.

That is naturally good news for those that want to preserve Canada. The
news has been welcomed both by Danielle Smith, the premier of Alberta,
and Prime Minister Mark Carney. Here's hoping it doesn't just engender complacency in the federal government. It's easy to imagine them
thinking they don't have to do anything now to placate Alberta, which
has some deep-seated concerns about how central Canada always seems to
be trying to shut down (or at least tightly constrain) their energy
sector, which is the core of their economy.
I honestly don't even know what the other 9 referenda were about.
