Other than being set in an undersea environment, this new TV series has nothing to do with the 1960's movie and TV series - it simply reuses
the same name.

Daisy Ridley Scores New Paramount+ TV Show
That's Aquaman Meets National Treasure
------------------------------------------
Daisy Ridley's next project is an epic adventure television
show for Paramount+. The upcoming series promises a thrilling
ride featuring dangerous conspiracies and maritime escapades.

Paramount+ has ordered Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, an
eight-episode television series starring Ridley. The Star Wars
actress is also executive producing the show alongside
Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman, who is set to pen
the series. Matt Shakman has joined as the director and
executive producer. EPs also include Jon Jashni, while Derek
Thielges co-produces.

In Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Ridley leads the series as
brilliant ocean scientist Lee Crane, who joins a classified
government program following a catastrophic Arctic expedition
that claims the life of her twin sister.

The official synopsis of the show, per Variety, reads, "At the
center of the program is the USS Seaview, a retro-futuristic
submarine found entombed in the ice, marked with symbols from
a history that shouldn't exist, and it powers up only when Lee
steps aboard. Thrust into command of a pressure-cooker crew
and an uneasy alliance with government power brokers, Lee leads
Seaview on daring undersea missions to contain mysterious
forces leaking into our world, all while uncovering a hidden
truth about the oceans, an erased chapter of human history and
the once-thought mythical city of Atlantis."

Daisy Ridley's previous roles & upcoming projects
Daisy Ridley has appeared in a slew of popular movies over the
years. The actress rose to fame playing Rey in the Star Wars
sequel trilogy, starting with Star Wars: The Force Awakens in
2015.

She has since starred in Murder on the Orient Express, Ophelia,
Sometimes I Think About Dying, Young Woman and the Sea, and
more. Ridley also had voice roles in Peter Rabbit, The Inventor,
and Only Yesterday.

Ridley will next appear in the upcoming Christmas film Ebenezer,
starring Johnny Depp as the titular protagonist. She will also
feature in the action thriller film The Good Samaritan with Josh
Duhamel. In addition to Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Ridley
will lead the upcoming TV series The Christie Affair.

It also re-uses the name "Crane" - he was the captain of the submarine -
and the name of the submarine. It seems to be trying to claim some kind
of connection to the original series.
