I buy exactly one Powerball ticket ($2) when the jackpot goes over $400,000,000. My wife doesn't even approve of that, but it's such a
small amount of money. Other than that, I do not gamble ever. I wrote an episode from my own life into my book, and other than my not hitting the jackpot, everything else is exactly as it happened.

My MIL lived with us for a few years and she liked the slots at the
casino. I'd take her and go have dinner at the buffet. Sometimes I'd
throw away $10, a couple of times I won a bit.

I've been to Las Vegas about a dozen times and maintain the $10 limit.
They don't build places like that because the guest always win.

What is scary today are the setups you can put on your phone like Fan
Dual. You can bet on all sort of thing, not just the game. Seems a lot
of people are going into hoc with them.

What's wrong with a pork chop? What's wrong with a chicken breast,

choose another vegetable or starch to go with your seafood.

The only thing in the paragraph above that is wrong is frozen
vegetables, if they are the mixed vegetables that folks just dump
together with other crap. I'm sure glad I'm not poor, and didn't marry a shitty cook. I married a non-cook. She had to ask me whether you wait
until the water boils before you put in the spaghetti. Even at the time,
I found that a net positive.

I still don't understand your gripe with frozen vegetables. I don't know
about you, but when I make vegetable beef soup, I will use a bag of frozen vegetables marketed as 'vegetable soup mix.' There's another one called
'gumbo vegetable mix' and it contains okra and another vegetable or two
not found in the soup mix. My only gripe with either of these that neither contain potatoes; that means I have to peel one or two small/medium spuds
and dice them into the pot. Let's not forget chopped onions.

So you won't be laboring under a misconception, I do season these vegetables, rather highly I might add, as I don't 'just dump together with other crap.'

Lots of people will use many opened cans of different vegetables to make
their soup. I'm not a fan of the already cooked vegetables getting another cooking, but it's their soup, not mine. They can do as they please and not
get a sanctimonious lecture from me.

When I make the Ninja Foodi pot pie I do use frozen peas and carrots; a
recent addition to the pie for me. A 12-ounce bag is portioned out into
two 4-ounce bags and vacuum sealed for another time. The remaining 4-ounces goes into the pot with the other ingredients; all these vegetables are
also highly seasoned. Who wants to eat a bland chicken pot pie? Not me!

I was never much of a gambler. The risk of losing a lot of money
stupidly always outweighed the chance of winning. I have known too many
bad gamblers over the years and they always provided good examples of
how not gamble. The guy who had been best man at our wedding ended up having to leave town over gambling debts. Another friend didn't have
the gambling compulsion as bad as the best man had, but he loved to
gamble and he was bad. I used to play backgammon with him and I was willing to do it for points but he always wanted to do it for money. He didn't understand when to double and when to concede. He was a worthy
player but his bad timing for doubling and not wanting to concede games
    cost him dearly.

there is a way of gambling that works but you need
discipline (which is where most people fail).

When I started with my last employer I had a 35 mile commute so I had to figure and hour each way. I worked at that location for 9 months and
then transferred to a location was was about 30 miles in the other
direction and had to count on 45 minutes. I only worked there for a year
and a half and then went back to the first place. After twelve years I switched to another branch and it was less than 20 miles so I could
easily make it in half an hour. Then they moved us to an office trailer
in maintenance yard that was about 8 miles. It was nice being able to
make it to work in 12 minutes.

It was exactly 12½ miles from my house to work, but shift manager was 40 miles one way. Complained about an $80 weekly fill up and time spent on
the road. I pointed out to her she had an aunt that lived 8 miles from
work and she could spend two nights a week there and save that time and
money. Plus, her supper would be waiting on her when she arrived. Still
whined about wanting to sleep in her own bed until she got tired of
spending all her free time at the gas pump. Aunt was thrilled to have
her there and she looked forward to a meal awaiting her when she walked
    through the door.

We had several that lived out in the boonies and spent hours weekly on
    the road.

i was able to live and work in the same building for a

one downside was there was no excuse for not getting
to work when the weather was bad. the other was that

i also for a while lived at the other end of the town

when i lived in a house for some years close enough to

to be a shorter commute for me to just walk. most of my
time at that house i lived in the attic - which in the
north can be a challenge but i was ok with it. it was
    pretty inexpensive living.

eventually i had to park the small truck in more
remote parking lot up the hill and that ended up being
in a spot where some jerks were breaking into vehicles
and damaging them. goodbye small truck.

i didn't bother getting another vehicle until after
    i'd moved away.
