• Cola - the secret to the longevity of a 101-year-old grandfather from China: he confessed that he can't live without his favorite soda and always keeps a couple of cases at home.

    From Newsgroup: rec.food.cooking

He also often adds a few drops of his favorite baijiu (Chinese liquor) to the drink. The man never paid attention to his diet and simply follows the rule "eat well and live well."

    Coca-Cola lovers will live forever.

It's different. On the mainland, most people that use "chink" don't know a thing about the Chinese people and their culture. In Hawaii, they're a large part of our culture. My son's haole friend that lives in Pittsburg finds it exasperating that people don't know the difference between Chinese, Koreans, and other Asians. In other words, ignorance abounds. Chink isn't used much in Hawaii because it's a racist and ignorant term.

They lived it up and I used to see them going out to the night club or hotel. They would take my friend and his sister with them to wait in the car while they went drinking. No baby sitter needed. That's real pake.

I don't have any problem with people being cheap. The Hawaiian/Chinese

Some other cultures are notoriously thrifty and happily acknowledge it.
The Dutch tend to make jokes about their cheapness. LOL thinking about
my nephew's wife who is Hungarian and talked about her father being a typically cheap eastern European. He used an old cookie bag to carry his
lunch to work. This was not a newly emptied cookie bag. He would handle
them very carefully and re-use them for weeks, like two weeks use out of
    and old Oreos bag.
Then there are French Canadians like Cheap Bob who would take his wallet
out of his pocket when we went out to a bar for drinks so "oops. I
forgot my wallet" The times he did bring his wallet he would slip out
to the washroom every time the waiter brought a round of drinks.

I heard the strangest thing at an uncle's funeral. He was of Scottish extraction and his last name was Goldson. The funeral was at a
Presbyterian church and the minister started carrying on with strange comments like " We Scots are a lot like the Jews. We both have a
reputation for stretching a penny". Okay, his name may have sounded
like it could be Jewish, but he wasn't. Even so, the remarks were
    entirely inappropriate.

    -a vegetable-centric diet
-they're richer and have better health care and health insurance
-being richer, they live in less stressful neighbourhoods

I know you aren't at all racist but I wonder how different the Hawaiian
pake is different from a North American chink?

It's different. On the mainland, most people that use "chink" don't know a thing about the Chinese people and their culture. In Hawaii, they're a large part of our culture. My son's haole friend that lives in Pittsburg finds it exasperating

Around here, dropping the "H" from "Pittsburgh" is fighting words.

The feds removed the "H" from all of the "burghs" in 1891, but the
locals fought back until Pittsburgh's "H" was restored in 1911.

    Coca-Cola lovers will live forever.

Coca-Cola ....hmm what is the mixture being sold there. Different nations use different ingredients.

I will admit giving sugar to revive my grandmother works, when she needs the juice. When her sugar drops.

The doctor said "Sometimes the things that are not healthy for us can be", Like giving alcohol to pregnant women during birth ( I forget how that works ),

Or coffee v. Alcohol, while driving. Even smoking to calm the nerves.

Around the rest of the US, it's mostly just ignorance. Thanks for the info.
Of course I meant Pittsburgh PA, not Pittsburg CA. My son's friend was making custom car parts in his kitchen out of composites. I think he's got a real shop these days.
