• Wallet cleaning tip

Have a leather wallet? In need of a sprucing up? I recommend a good
leather cleaner and soft cloths to get it looking great again.

What I do not recommend is leaving it in the back pocket of you shorts
and tossing them into the laundry. Seems the leather loses some of it texture, though the detergent did clean it.

The cards inside were also spiffy clean and in the bottom of the tub.

Yep, and if you urinate in it and let it soak an hour before cleaning,
    it comes out beautifully.

If you also shit in the wallet, it will come out perfect after you throw
    it in your washing machine.

Others have bragged about this on several cooking newsgroups.

I'm safe! No back pockets on shorts or jeans. But I do recommend checking clothes with pockets for forgotten tissues. That's a nice mess in the washer and on those wet clothes.   😩

But glad to hear you have a sparkling clean wallet!

My wallet has been through the washing machine several times. Thank
goodness it doesn't ruin cards. Bills will dry out. The real victims are
the appointment cards and business cards that should have been purged
    anyway.

It is an opportunity to purge. There are a couple of cards I've not needed/used in years.

Ah well. I have a leather wallet but it resides in a leather hand-bag,

I've never use a wallet for cash, though I used to keep an emergency $20
in it. There's a wad of cash in my left front pocket, like for the last
~50 years. I almost never use cash anymore. The Choice card gives 3X
points at grocery and hardware stores. The Costco card gives 5% back on
gas, 3% on restaurants, and 1% on everything else. The mechanic gets
paid by check. Tips for the hotel housekeepers is about the only use for
    cash anymore.

When I visit my mother, I put my purse in the car so I'll have

I was able to do this as a young woman, but started to "need" a
purse as I got older. Looking back, it precisely coincided with
having a job where I couldn't wear jeans.

Maybe I could go purseless again now, but I'm so used to hauling

I forgot that there is one restaurant we go to that does that. We only
go there a few times a year. The only other entity that does that is my mechanic, and yeah, at the DMV I pay by check. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/grassis-ristorante-and-deli-frontenac?select=hRMgtYggBhOcogdhtcJHwA

They have a veal parmagiana sandwich with a side salad for only $10.69.
When we go there, I always smuggle in tomatoes to add to their salad
because it doesn't have any. That might be where we go for my birthday.

May I have your credit/debit card number come the end of February 2027?
That's when my property taxes are due and they're happy to accept debit,
credit cards, checks or cash. You won't mind paying that _$50_ convenience

No fees associated with cash or check; I'm guessing your card number will

But no, no peppermints in my purse nor is my checkbook in there; it stays

Checks (cheques) are very 1990s. I bet that many people who carry
checks in their purse also have peppermints in there.

May I have your credit/debit card number come the end of February 2027? >That's when my property taxes are due and they're happy to accept debit, >credit cards, checks or cash. You won't mind paying that _$50_ convenience >fee for accepting debit or credit cards, will you?

I'd dodge the $50 fee too, but I've never heard of a fee for paying
with debit card or online banking. That's like having to pay a fee for
    using the sidewalk.

No fees associated with cash or check; I'm guessing your card number will
    not be forthcoming?

But no, no peppermints in my purse nor is my checkbook in there; it stays
    at home.

    :)

I don't carry them in my purse (to the limited extent I carry a
purse). My checkbook is in the desk drawer. Like Joan, I pay
my property tax by check because the 2.8% fee imposed by the township
for using a credit card would amount to almost $100.
I pay my taxes by cheque so that I have a paper and an
    electronic record.

Do you ever leave the house without peppermints?

    Debit card.

It just occurred to me that I carry my mother's checkbook in my
purse, in case I get to her house and there's something that can't
be paid by credit card online. Her property taxes, typically.

    Debit card.

That's what I'd think, but apparently you have to pay a fee in the US
for paying with a debit card or with online banking. No?

I don't. The charge comes immediately out of the checking account that
it's tied to. That's it. No muss, no fuss, no charge.

Yes, same here. I only use a credit card when there's no alternative
and checks are a distant memory.

My township won't accept a debit card. I could use an eCheck
through BS&A Software. I suppose at this point it's irrelevant
whether I give out my checking account information to yet another
    online company.

Paying property taxes here with a debit or credit card is the only fee
I encounter using either one. I did mention some restaurants will charge
a fee for using a card; that's when the cash comes out. But grocery shopping, gas fill ups, prescriptions, clothes shopping, etc., no fees are charged.

It depends on the municipality whether they charge what I call a 'convenience fee.' The city receives none of these fees as it's a business not part of
the local government that handles these types of payments.

I think most businesses here would prefer to do away with cash money.
We only pay a gardener cash.

Online, more and more companies and organisations accept PayPal
without a fee here. As an alternative to credit card, which also
    doesn't incur a fee, generally.
