The Pope possibly hasn't always been a white man.
"The Church's records tell us there were potentially
three Black popes in Catholic history: Pope Victor I,
who headed the church from 189-199, Pope Miltiades
(311-314), and Pope Gelasius I (492-496)."

There was also reportedly a female Pope, although she was pretending to
be a man and only discovered not to be when she gave birth during a >procession.
"Pope Joan (855-857) was a woman who purportedly reigned
as popess (female pope) for two years during the Middle
Ages."

By which time they are fairly OLD so how did the 'old'

The part that annoys me is that they wrote "popess" instead
of the correct "papess."

Potentially, being the operative word of course.
I don't know (as I wasn't around then, obviously) but I assume
those Popes - who history says originated from North Africa -
were probably more olive-skinned than anything else, like the
people of modern day Libya/Tunisia (etc.) So more likely dark
skinned but not what we term as black today... like Ncuti Gatwa
black.
But Popes coming from Africa shouldn't be an issue anyway, as
the Catholic religion is worldwide... and the person they are
worshipping was more likely to have been more dark-skinned than
white anyway.
There was also reportedly a female Pope, although she was

A woman dressing up as a man, to serve in a religion that does
not ordain women, getting banged-up and having a baby during a
religious procession could almost be an allegory of the modern
'anything goes' church.
It's only a legend though, as there is no gap in documented
Papal records where this "Pope Joan" supposedly existed... so
it's more folklore than actual history.
But then again, they would say that wouldn't they?!

It's just an urban legend. :-) There's an ancient trope of a woman
passing as a man, and someone applied it to the Pope.
The part that annoys me is that they wrote "popess" instead of the
correct "papess."

Correct by who though? As I doubt there's a Vatican sanctioned
term for a female Pope... as it's not a scenario they would see
as being likely to arise. So it's not a legitimate title. :-)
Pope is a latin is word for Father.

Amazing though it may seem to Anglophones, languages with stronger case >allow for terms for feminine fathers. In Latin, which uses an absolute
pile of case instead of word ordering, it's perfectly possible to refer
to a female father. That's just how the language works.
English replaced a lot of case's job with word ordering.
It's amazing how often we discuss language in RADW. I keep having to
check to see what group I'm in.

No worries. The last RADW/AUE crosspost was a disaster.
