Sherlock Holmes & Tom Baker... what is there not to like?
It may turn out to not be as good as the Big Finish Sherlock
Holmes range of audios, but I'll get the CD anyway and give it
a go. Tom Baker in anything is usually worth listening to.
Plus, I like Sherlock Holmes too.

He works great on audio. The BBC Radio Four Dramatisations with

No, I didn't like that either. I think I got through about two

I've watched it a couple of times. I still like much of Moffat's work,
but this essay helped me put my finger on a consistent problem: Moffat
shows are all buildup and no payoff. Combined with the problem of the
show being about how special the main character is instead of about the >plot, it explains why Moff shows tend to fall apart as they go.

That must be modern showrunners in general, as that could
easily apply to RTD too! A big build up, leading to a big
let-down.
They start off with a load of good ideas but then run out
of steam the longer their shows go on...

One problem is that the creator has this "brilliant idea", but never
fully thinks it through. This leads to things being made up and
alterations as they go along, which is usually disasterous, ill-fitting >mess, (e.g. "Lost").
Another problem is that they create a show as a one-off, but if it then >becomes very popular, they try to extend it with more seasons, which is >again usually disasterous, (e.g. "Broadchurch"). This also often means
they don't end the series properly and leave it open to further seasons.
There is a recent new UK crime thriller series "The Game" which would
have been quite good as a one-off 'mini-series', but they've left it
open for a second season and apparently the fool in charge has said
they see it as a three season show, which is simply too long for the
idea and they should have ended it properly.

There is also the reverse, where after many episodes of build-up, they >quickly rush through the conlusion ... if they even have a conclusion
at all and don't leave it open in hopes of another season.

Ah!! O.K., I never knew that! ;-P
It was mentioned in a couple of the Conan Doyle short stories.
Most notably “The Adventure of the Lion’s Mane”
There was also the 2015 movie "Mr Holmes" starring Sir Ian McKellen as
the retired Sherlock Holmes (or mostly-retired since he does take on
his "final case" in the movie).

Might be worth checking out. I still like Sherlock Holmes, after all
these years.
I still like Sherlock Holmes even after the silly modernised Benedict >Cucumberpatch series and the awful American gender-swapped and
modernised garbage. :-)

He works great on audio. The BBC Radio Four Dramatisations with
Clive Merrison and Michael Williams were brilliant... Big Finish
have a Sherlock Holmes range too, with Nick Briggs as Sherlock,
which are also quite good. (Those are mainly original stories,
not adaptations.)
even after the silly modernised Benedict Cucumberpatch series
I liked "Sherlock"... it worked okay for me.

No, I didn't like that either. I think I got through about two
episodes when Mrs Blueshirt had it on at one stage. Awful is
right!

Sorry!! What's the chronology of this??
Interesting. Thanks.
I'd imagine, after he retired... and before he died! ;-)
Quote from that web-page
"Having lived the quiet life on the Sussex Downs, Holmes is
drawn back to London, where, joined by his friend Doctor John
Watson, they are both embroiled in a new murder
investigation," the synopsis says. End Quote
"quite life on Sussex Downs"?? Is this before or after Holmes
lived at 221B Baker Street??
In universe, Sherlock Holmes retired to Sussex to keep Bees.
there you go.
