It may turn out to not be as good as the Big Finish Sherlock

    I still like Sherlock Holmes

He works great on audio. The BBC Radio Four Dramatisations with

have a Sherlock Holmes range too, with Nick Briggs as Sherlock,

It started off okay-ish, but they obviously ran out of sensible ideas
after the first (mini)season and it very quickly went off the rails. Thankfully the two main actors "hit the big time", so got too busy to
    make any more of it.

I watched the first season avidly and was primed for the second. The
second was decent, but less compelling. The third was so bad that I
didn't even look for the fourth.

Has everyone seen the "Sherlock is Garbage and Here's Why" video essay?

I've watched it a couple of times. I still like much of Moffat's work,
but this essay helped me put my finger on a consistent problem: Moffat
shows are all buildup and no payoff. Combined with the problem of the
show being about how special the main character is instead of about the
plot, it explains why Moff shows tend to fall apart as they go.

Yeah, I like the sound of this so I think I'll back this

I backed the Sir Sherlock project today... just the CD version
of "Red Letter Day". It will be interesting to hear Tom Baker

I hope the project is successful and leads to some more audio

Might be worth checking out. I still like Sherlock Holmes,
    after all these years.

    I still like Sherlock Holmes

He works great on audio. The BBC Radio Four Dramatisations with
Clive Merrison and Michael Williams were brilliant... Big Finish
have a Sherlock Holmes range too, with Nick Briggs as Sherlock,
which are also quite good. (Those are mainly original stories,
    not adaptations.)

even after the silly modernised Benedict Cucumberpatch series

I liked "Sherlock"... it worked okay for me.

One problem is that the creator has this "brilliant idea", but never
fully thinks it through. This leads to things being made up and
alterations as they go along, which is usually disasterous, ill-fitting
    mess, (e.g. "Lost").

Another problem is that they create a show as a one-off, but if it then becomes very popular, they try to extend it with more seasons, which is
again usually disasterous, (e.g. "Broadchurch"). This also often means
they don't end the series properly and leave it open to further seasons.

There is a recent new UK crime thriller series "The Game" which would
have been quite good as a one-off 'mini-series', but they've left it
open for a second season and apparently the fool in charge has said
they see it as a three season show, which is simply too long for the
idea and they should have ended it properly.

That must be modern showrunners in general, as that could easily apply
to RTD too! A big build up, leading to a big let-down.

They start off with a load of good ideas but then run out of steam the longer their shows go on...

There is also the reverse, where after many episodes of build-up, they
quickly rush through the conlusion ... if they even have a conclusion
at all and don't leave it open in hopes of another season.

    Interesting. Thanks.

Sorry!! What's the chronology of this?? (How appropriate in a 'Doctor
    Who' newsgroup!!)

    4th Doctor!

No, Binky(Word used by paedophiles to indicate their joy of child sexual >molestation), I'm not talking 'Doctor Who' chronology, Binky(Word used by >paedophiles to indicate their joy of child sexual molestation), but with-in >the 'Sherlock Holmes' realm, Binky(Word used by paedophiles to indicate

    Interesting. Thanks.

Sorry!! What's the chronology of this??

I'd imagine, after he retired... and before he died! ;-)

    Quote from that web-page
"Having lived the quiet life on the Sussex Downs, Holmes is
drawn back to London, where, joined by his friend Doctor John
Watson, they are both embroiled in a new murder
investigation," the synopsis says. End Quote

"quite life on Sussex Downs"?? Is this before or after Holmes
    lived at 221B Baker Street??

In universe, Sherlock Holmes retired to Sussex to keep Bees.

    Ah!! O.K., I never knew that! ;-P

    I still like Sherlock Holmes

He works great on audio. The BBC Radio Four Dramatisations with
Clive Merrison and Michael Williams were brilliant... Big Finish
have a Sherlock Holmes range too, with Nick Briggs as Sherlock,
which are also quite good. (Those are mainly original stories,
    not adaptations.)

even after the silly modernised Benedict Cucumberpatch series

I liked "Sherlock"... it worked okay for me.

and the awful American gender-swapped and modernised garbage.

No, I didn't like that either. I think I got through about two
episodes when Mrs Blueshirt had it on at one stage. Awful is
    right!
