Long-time incumbant Jan Schakowsky did not seek re-election in the
Illinois 9th congressional district, which is north side and north
suburbs in the Chicago area. I don't live in this district. This was one
of four districts with significant AIPAC-related spending; the AIPAC
candidate, whom I thought was an admirable state senator, came in 3rd.
The winner by plurality was the Mayor of Evanston and, long long ago, my
    state senator.

The Gaza War and Israeli politics stupidly dominated this primary.

A woman, claiming to be a student of his who had an affair with him when
he taught at University of Chicago, decided to post about the
relationship the night before the primary. It ended up having no
influence thanks to extensive early voting and mail-in voting.

The affair was a couple of evenings, and he waited to ask to see her
socially after the quarter had ended.

I'm struggling to understand how this was inappropriate in any way. She
says he broke it off, so it sounds like she wanted more at the time.
