I watched Ready Or Not, a movie from a few years back which is currently available on Hulu. Someone else in this group mentioned watching this --
was it Arthur? Sorry, but I've forgotten -- so when it was offered to
    me, I said sure.

The scion of a wealthy family brings his bride home, and she's told that
the family has a tradition in which she must play a game at midnight.
The game turns out to be hide and seek, and only after it has begun does
she realize they're all trying to kill her.

It's more of a dark comedy than a real horror movie. Several of the
goriest events happen off-camera, with us seeing only other characters' expressions.

I enjoyed it. Ads tell me there's a sequel now in theaters, but I didn't
enjoy it enough to go out.

I watched Ready Or Not, a movie from a few years back which is currently available on Hulu. Someone else in this group mentioned watching this --
    was it Arthur?

    It was me.

    This was our discussion:

READY OR NOT - Samara Weaving stars as a woman who is marrying
into an old-money family that made its wealth in the board game business.
She discovers on her wedding night that each new addition to the
family must play a game as sort of family tradition. The bride or groom
must draw the game to be played at random. Most games are benign--
checkers, chess, tic-tac-toe, etc.-- but she draws Hide and Seek, which
she discovers to her horror means she hides while the rest of the family
tracks her down to ritualistically murder her in service to the contract
the family's patriarch made to Satan, who is responsible for giving
them their vast wealth. Will the bride manage to survive until dawn?
Or will Lucifer have his prize?

What a lovely surprise for a bride. I'm sure it makes her want to be
a long time member of the family. If she survives till dawn does the
    family get dragged to hell?

That's what her new husband realizes. When the movie started, he
didn't really believe the family curse was real and didn't expect his
wife would draw the Hide & Seek card since no one had drawn it for
almost a century. He pretty much helps her survive throughout the
film but at the end, he understands that even if she survives, she'll
never want to be with him anymore, so he switches sides and helps
the rest of the family subdue her for the ritual.

She actually does survive and just as the sun starts to clear the
horizon the family starts to explode one at a time into buckets of
blood and gore and bits of bone, after which Satan appears briefly
at the head of the dining room table to tip his hat to the blood-
    drenched bride.

    Does she get the money?

Probably not, since her new husband was the last to explode and he only detonated when she took off her ring and demanded a divorce.

    What did you watch?

I finally got around to watching:

Superman (2025) (HBO Max) - This was goofy fun, mostly in the vein
"Superman II" (which I've liked ever since I saw it in the theater as a
    kid - so sue me!! :p ).
And on that note, I did kind of wonder about the timeline here -
either this was supposed to be an entirely new timeline (ignoring all
previous Superman flicks!?!)... or, it must take place between the
original "Superman" and "Superman II" (which opens up a whole other can
of worms, as those films took place c.1980, and this film is clearly in
    the present day!).
Anyway, like I said, this was mostly goofy fun, though much more
PG-13 (the language may actually have been pushing an 'R' a little bit)
than the originals' very PG vibe. There are some amusingly goofy gags in
here, like when Lois tries to have a conversation with Clark/Superman,
as the "Justice Gang" is fighting some monster the whole time in the background!:
Lois : Do you want to go help the Justice Gang?
Clark: Nah, it's just an interdimensional imp. They've got this covered.
    [LOL!]
The two leads were fine (Brosnahan actually manages to make you not
want to despise Lois, which I am not sure anyone else has pulled off
before!), and I quite enjoyed Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific. I actually
didn't mind Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olson either (though he's probably
too old for the part). And Nathan Fillion is amusing as Guy
Gardner/Green Lantern (though maybe a little too "extra" here).
But there are some head-scratchers in the casting department. E.G.
Why the heck do you cast Mikaela Hoover as Cat Grant and then stick her
in an awful blonde wig?! (It's not like any of the previous on-screen
Cat Grants have ever been blonde anyway!) And I can't for the life of me figure out why they cast Isabela Moner (now: Isabela Merced) as Hawk
Girl!?! (for one thing, she's tiny).
The one pretty obvious break from the past here was Nicholas Hoult's
Lex Luthor - this wasn't the goofy quasi-con man than Gene Hackman
played. This Lex is pretty much 100% EVOL!!! with a capital "E", and
with zero redeeming qualities. As a result, it's actually disappointing
that this movie ends without making sure this Lex was deader than dead.
Anyway, their choice of the direction for Supergirl is another head-scratcher, but this movie bought enough goodwill with me that I
will check out this year's "Supergirl" flick (when it comes to
streaming) to see what they do with it.

Beyond that, I watched a couple of episodes of DOOL (Holly and Tate
finally figure out that Holly is being drugged, though right now they
think Rachel is the culprit), and watched part of the B-ball game in
which Arizona beat the snot out of Purdue in the second half of an Elite
    Eight game.

Today, I am hoping to get to a few more flicks during my Spring Break,
paying particular attention to trying to get to "Clown in a Cornfield"
(on the Hulu!) which I have heard good things about.

    What did you watch?

I did watch this a few days ago, but I don't think I mentioned it (only
that I was going to watch it). I watched it in anticipation of Ready or
Not 2 which I also watched the other day. I think I liked Ready or Not
2 more. It picks up right where the first movie ends but turns things
up a few notches. I don't want to get into specifics because it leans
heavily into certain events that happen at the end of the first movie.
You *know* which events I am referring. So if you liked *that* aspect
of the movie and want more then the sequel is definitely the way to go.

In addition to Ready or Not 2, I also recently watched "They Will Kill
You" which is also in theaters now. Those two movies pair very well
together. They Will Kill You stars Zazie Beetz as an ex-con who gets
out of prison and goes to work as a maid at a hotel that turns out to be
a front for a devil cult that wants to sacrifice her to the devil. Unfortunately for the cult, years of prison life has trained Beetz to
handle anything, even a psychotic devil cult.

I'm trying to avoid any spoilers. I'll just emphasize that "Ready Or
Not 2" and "They Will Kill You" pair very well together.

Yeah, it's its' own thing. Although certain aspects of the old
Synderverse remain, like John Cena as Peacemaker. But he's not the same Peacemaker. It's a whole multiverse thing happening.

It's my understanding that the new Supergirl is being portrayed comic accurate. Her upcoming movie is based on a comic and that's how she was portrayed in that comic. And Aquaman is now Lobo. Like I said
    multiverse. LOL.

Interesting. "They Will Kill You" has gotten mixed reviews on Reddit

I watched this last night. (I've also read the book it was based on.)

It was a pretty faithful adaptation and a refreshing call-back to the old hard-R horror movies of my yout, with lots of gore where you actually get to see what happens as opposed to the current style of PG-13 horror, where we see the killer's knife (or ax or chainsaw or whatever) come arcing down toward the victim, then the camera cuts away and we see some blood splash on the wall or something.

My only complaint is that a true hard-R slasher movie has two crucial elements and this movie only has one of them: (1) buckets of blood and gore and (2) gratuitous nekkid nudity. It delivers on the former but is sadly completely bereft of the latter.
