What did you watch?
I spent all day grading (good news: I finished the worst batch of it!!),
so pretty much nothing but soaps, and nothing really happened on the
soaps either.
I watched a batch of fantasy movies, including new 4K discs of:
Krull (4K disc) - I actually watched this Friday night. This 1983
science fiction fantasy stars Ken Marshall as a young prince who must
save his world from an alien sorcerer. I think. I just sit back and
enjoy the movie and not worry too much about the details. I was just
glad to have the movie in 4K with a new Dolby Atmos soundtrack. As an
aside, since Krull is such a wonderful movie, I specially ordered a
Krull poster off eBay to get signed by Ken Marshall at the upcoming
Vegas Star Trek convention. When I ordered the poster, the page said
there was only one left. I wondered who is buying up all the Krull
posters. But there are lot of different Krull posters for sale online,
so someone must be buying them.
The Neverending Story 1984 fantasy movie directed by Wolfgang Petersen
about a boy (Barret Oliver) who steels a book from a mysterious
bookstore and learns the book is as fictional as he thought. I watched
this twice. First a new 4K disc with a new commentary. Then I watched a blu-ray of the German cut of the movie. This was my first time watching
the German cut. It was an interesting experience. This is one of my
favorite movies and I love the score. But the German cut, in addition to
being a slightly different edit of the movie, has a different score.
Missing is the iconic sound and Giorgio Moroder's beautiful music.
Although both cuts of the movie do share a few of the same music cues. Overall, I prefer the U.S. edit, mainly because of the music. I can't
even wrap my brain around watching the movie (again) without the score.

Legend (blu-ray) 1985 fantasy movie directed by Ridley Scott and
starring Tom Cruise as a long hero who must rescue a damsel in distress
from Tim Curry'e Darkness. When watched back-to-back with Krull, the
plots of the two movies are surprisingly similar.
The Golden Child (4K disc) 1986 fantasy comedy starring Eddie Murphy as
a wisecracking finder of lost children who is tasked with locating a
mystical child before the power of evil can kill him. I watched this
with a new and informative commentary track.
