I watched the surprise hit OBSESSION on the Apples.

This movie is the runaway hit of the year. With $200-million films like SUPERGIRL and DISCLOSURE DAY bombing at the box office, a YouTuber came along and made this movie for something like $700,000 and its current box office tally stands at $403 million. Which goes to show that if you have a creative idea and you have the talent to tell it well, you can put butts in the seats without having to spend the GDP of a small country to do it.

Anyway, it's basically a retelling of THE MONKEY'S PAW. Guy is in love with girl (played by the girl who dated and then dumped one of the superboys on SUPERMAN & LOIS) who has seriously friend-zoned him. She loses her favorite crystal necklace so he goes to a new agey astrology/potion shop to surprise
her with a new one and ends up buying a novelty wishing stick. You break the stick and make a wish, which he does while saying, "I wish she'd love me more than anything."

You can imagine where it goes from there. It's a well-worn trope, but this
film does it in a creative way and a lot of it is in the acting. The female lead is exceptionally creepy as the results of her friend's wish consume her.

    BTR-Bob says check it out.

World Cup soccer - The Norway-Brazil came was a joy to watch. I tend to
put Premiere League on as background noise in the mornings during the
Spring, so I've known about Erling Haaland for a while. But to see
Norway actually beat Brazil was awesome. And it wasn't really even close!
The Mexico-England game was one of the most anxiety-inducting games
I've ever seen. And it was non-stop! +90 minutes of pure anxiety! But it
was a good game. A little surprising that England got the better of it,
but Mexico just never executed on their opportunities to score. If they
had... it would have ramped up the anxiety even more!... Anyway, this
was a great game - the kind of game that even the people who don't love
    soccer would like.

I also saw some Wimbledon tennis too.

soaps: DOOL - Thur's ep. I think this was the episode where Joy is
clearly playing games (to try to land Alex for herself), and Kayla kind
of calls her on it. Stephanie takes a self-defense class with Tate, and
they commiserate with each other. Holly is still sick. EJ is still
    trying to cover up why.
GH - Fri's ep. Well, this is unfortunate - Z shows up on screen and
it's played by... John Oliver. >:/ I have no idea what Oliver is doing slumming it on GH - HBO and ABC aren't even the same corporate parents!
All I can figure is that Oliver must actually be a fan of GH!?! Anyway,
Oliver as Z sort of "interrogates" Josslyn - Z claims to Josslyn that
Cassius is dead. (I don't believe this for a minute - at most, we won't
see him, but they'll leave it open ended in case Ryan Paevey wants to
come back...) Later, Carly goes to Z to demand that Joss be "released"
from the WSB - can't wait until John Oliver as Z tells her to pound
sand... Meanwhile, Vaughn is back! Some other stuff happened with Britt
and Rocco and Charlotte/Danny, but, eh...

    I'll get to this eventually.

This weekend I spent watching some TV but mostly the Starcraft 2 Home
Story Cup tournament that ran from Friday to Sunday. With Sunday going
late (from 7AM till about 11PM) it limited how much time I had to do
anything else. It was a great set of games with Serral managing to
dominate again losing only one match as he has been doing since 2018.
Great to watch if you like strategy games.

For TV I just watched the first few episodes of SUPERNATUAL. Since
it's been a decade or so since I watched these episodes I didn't
remember them. So I was quite surprised to see Sarah Shahi showing up
as a ghost that killed people who had the misfortune to give her a
ride. Then in the very next episode they had Amy Acker with a much
better role to demonstrate her acting talents.

For those that don't know both Shahi and Acker starred in PERSON OF
INTEREST which is why having the two show up back to back in
SUPERNATURAL stood out for me. Not that it was planned or had any
secret meaning but it was just a cool thing to notice that I'm sure I
never noticed when watching the series the first time around.

That does sound good. I don't think I'll head out to a theater, though.

That was an episode of The Twilight Zone - "The Chaser" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chaser_(The_Twilight_Zone)

Tales From the Crypt also did a similar story called "Loved to Death"

This is a multiday catch up. I watched:

I've been making my way through various boxing movies in my collection
and saved on the DVR. I've been making my way through them for a few
    weeks now.

Fruitvale Station (streamed) - 2013 movie written and directed by Ryan
Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan, with a score by Ludwig
Göransson. I watched this the other week. This Coogler, Jordan,
Göransson group make for an interesting mix. I'll have to keep an eye
out if they do any other movies together.

Rocky (4K disc) 1976 movie starring and written by Sylvester Stallone
with a score by Bill Conti. Stallone stars as Rocky, an aging failed
boxer who gets his big break to fight the world Champion Apollo Creed
(Carl Weathers) on the 200th anniversary of America.

Rocky II (4K disc) 1979 sequel written and directed by Sylvester
Stallone with a score by Bill Conti. Stallone once again stars as Rocky
who once again fights Creed to be the boxing heavy weight champion of
    the world.

Rocky III (4K disc) 1982 sequel written and directed by Sylvester
Stallone with a score by Bill Conti. Rocky is back and this time
fighting Mr. T. But luckily for Rocky, he has the Eye of the Tiger.
The movie that proves with the power of a training montage and the right motivational song, Rocky will always win. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btPJPFnesV4

Rocky IV: Rocky vs Drago - The Ultimate Director's Cut (4K disc) 1985
sequel written and directed by Sylvester Stallone with a score by Vince DiCola. This was my first time watching this cut of the movie. In an
attempt to be more serious, they got rid of all the cool 80s nostalgia
bits like the robot. What's the point of even watching Rocky IV if it
doesn't have the "Happy Birthday Paulie" robot in it? Anyway, this time
Rocky must battle an evil Russian named Drago (Dolph Lungren). "If he
dies, he dies." But once again thanks to the power of a training
montage and the right motivational song, Rocky is able to defeat the
evil Russians. I'll also mention the score to Rocky IV, sounds a *lot*
like the score to Transformers: The movie, which I'm sure is a total coincidence, even if both movies were scored by Vince DiColoa. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvNf82upbuQ

Rocky V (4K disc) 1990 sequel written by Sylvester Stallone with a score
by Bill Conti. Picking up where Rocky IV ended Rocky is beat to a pulp
and also now broke because the plot wants it that way. The heavy weight champion of the world, who just defeated the Russians on their own soil,
can't figure out how to make money? OK. Anyway, Rocky trains an up and coming boxer who betrays him leading Rocky to give the guy a proper
beating in the middle of the street. I liked that even thought Burgess Meredith's character died in Rocky III, they brought Meredith back to
film new flashback scenes for this one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBMgvcN-1mc

Rocky Balboa (4K disc) 2006 sequel written and directed by Sylvester
Stallone with a score by Bill Conti. Rocky comes out of retirement to
show an old man can still get into the ring and fight the heavy weight champion of the world, as long as that old man has a training montage
and a motivational song. I like that Tony Burton who was in every Rocky
movie returns for this one to once again train Rocky. "Let's start
    building some hurting bombs."
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtjGvBnAxVE

Creed (4K disc) 2015 "Rocky" sequel written and directed by Ryan Coogler
and starring Michael B. Jordan, with a score by Ludwig Göransson.
Jordan takes over the franchise as Apollo's son Adonis Creed, who is
trained by Rocky (Stallone) to take on the heavy weight champion of the
world. But will a training montage and motivational song be enough for
Creed to win? Even though Ludwig Göransson did the score, of course
they still worked in the Conti theme. :-)

Creed II (4K disc) 2018 sequel written Sylvester Stallone with a score
by Ludwig Göransson. Michael B. Jordan returns and this time must face
off against the son of Drago who is being trained by his father (Dolph Lundgren) and out of revenge. Fortunately for Creed there's always a
training montage and motivational song just when you need one. I
remember seeing this in the theater and when Bill Conti's theme music
kicked in at just right moment, the audience went wild.

Creed III (4K disc) 2023 sequel starring and directed by Michael B.
Jordan. Just when he thought he was out, they pulled him back in.
Creed's childhood friend (Jonathan Majors) gets out of prison and shows
up at Creed's doorstep demanding help. Creed offers help but is
betrayed. The only way to make things right is a title fight for the
heavy weight championship of the world. How does a heavy weight
championship fight solve *any* of the problems raised in the movie? I
don't know. It's a boxing movie, just go with it. OK, so it's not as
good as the first two, and Stallone sitting this one out doesn't help,
but it does have a training montage and a motivational song. So, it's
    not all bad.

Black Panther (4K disc) - 2018 movie written and directed by Ryan
Coogler and starring Chadwick Boseman and Michael B. Jordan, with a
score by Ludwig Göransson. Black Panther (Boseman) must stop Killmonger (Jordan) from conquering the world. This was mostly background noise
    but held up well enough.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (4K disc) 2022 sequel written and
directed by Ryan Coogler with a cameo by Michael B. Jordan, and a score
by Ludwig Göransson. Mostly background noise. I really should have
paid closer attention because next thing I know Riri Williams is flying
around in an Iron Man suit and I must have completely missed when she
built (upgraded) it. The movie has one of the best trailers ever, but
the movie itself has problems. My main gripe with this movie was the
horrible decision to kill off Black Panther instead of recasting the character.

I watched the surprise hit OBSESSION on the Apples.

This movie is the runaway hit of the year. With $200-million films like
SUPERGIRL and DISCLOSURE DAY bombing at the box office, a YouTuber came
    along
and made this movie for something like $700,000 and its current box office >>> tally stands at $403 million. Which goes to show that if you have a creative
idea and you have the talent to tell it well, you can put butts in the seats
without having to spend the GDP of a small country to do it.

Anyway, it's basically a retelling of THE MONKEY'S PAW. Guy is in love with >>> girl (played by the girl who dated and then dumped one of the superboys on >>> SUPERMAN & LOIS) who has seriously friend-zoned him. You can imagine where it goes from there. It's a well-worn trope, but this >>> film does it in a creative way and a lot of it is in the acting. The female >>> lead is exceptionally creepy as the results of her friend's wish consume >>> her.

    BTR-Bob says check it out.

Inde Navarrette has the worst photo set on IMDb I’ve ever seen

It's too bad because she's quite cute.

I didn't realize that. But looking up the guy who wrote the original
story I see they adapted a bunch of his short stories for "The Twilight

"Obsession" has an extremely similar plot and I'll just leave it at that...

I listened to a pretty good commentary track on the "Rocky" disc that mentioned the part was up between Meredith and a friend of Merideth's. Merideth didn't know this until he talked to his friend and the friend mentioned having the script for "Rocky" at which point Merideth
immediately got on the phone and accepted the role before his friend could.

Another good story on the commentary track was Carl Weathers describing auditioning for the role and having a bad audition reading opposite
Stallone. He complained to the casting people, in front of Stallone,
they needed to get him a real actor to read against, not realizing
Stallone was the writer and star of the movie.

I know, right? Sony learned that lesson well. That's why all of those Spider-Man-less Spider-Man movies did so well. Who needs Spider-Man
when you have Morpheus. And I can't wait to see Kraven The Hunter, hunt
    the Rhino.
