Prime Video Just Canceled a 100% Rotten Tomatoes Series
After Just 1 Season
-------------------------------------------------------
Prime Video just axed a show that viewers and critics absolutely
loved after only one season. A faith-based family drama loses its
spot on the streamer despite perfect Rotten Tomatoes reviews and
consistent Top 10 placement.
Why Prime Video canceled It's Not Like That
Prime Video decided not to renew its faith-based family drama
It's Not Like That for a second season, Deadline revealed on
July 7. Wonder Project developed the series through its
collaboration with the streaming platform. Scott Foley portrayed
Malcolm, a widowed pastor raising three children, opposite Erinn
Hayes as Lori, a recently divorced mother.
The decision comes roughly six weeks after the show debuted
globally on Prime Video on May 15. Wonder Project's add-on
subscription channel had initially premiered the series on
January 25. Despite solid audience reception, the streamer opted
against continuing the story.
The show earned a flawless 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes during
its entire run. Prime Video's inaugural global weekly Top 10 list
on June 3 placed the series at No. 9. It also held steady at
No. 5 on the streamer's Daily Top 10 rankings in the United
States.
In contrast, Wonder Project's other collaboration House of David
secured a third season renewal. Notably, the previous Prime Video
leadership originally commissioned both faith-based projects.
Furthermore, Amazon MGM Studios Head of Global TV Peter
Friedlander shares a long history with Wonder Project CEO Kelly
Merryman Hoogstraten.
Meanwhile, Parenthood veterans Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson
crafted the series and led it as showrunners with Garrett Lerner.
Ultimately, the season ended on an unresolved note, with Malcolm
only imagining his romantic confession to Lori.
Additionally, the ensemble featured J.R. Ramirez, Caleb Baumann,
Cary Christopher, Leven Miranda, Liv Lindell and Cassidy Paul. Jon
Erwin, Justin Rosenblatt and Jon Gunn also served as executive
producers for Wonder Project alongside Foley and Brad Silberling.
Amazon MGM Studios handled production duties for the series.
