Ryan Reynolds' New Disney+ TV Show Adapts This Hugely Popular Franchise
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ryan Reynolds and Disney+ are partnering to develop a new TV show based
on a popular book series. Disney+ is currently home to various young
adult adaptations like Percy Jackson and Goosebumps.
What is Ryan Reynolds' new Disney+ TV show?
Disney+ is developing a new TV show based on Stuart Gibbs' Spy School
novels (via Variety). The series will be written and executive-produced
by Chris Fedak. Ryan Reynolds' Maximum Effort Productions and Emma
Watts will also executive produce the series at 20th Television.
Maximum Effort previously produced IF, Deadpool & Wolverine, The Adam
Project, Free Guy, and more.
The Spy School franchise started in 2012, and the 14th book in the
series, Spy School Goes East, will be released later this year.
Collectively, the series has sold over 12 million copies. Gibbs has
also penned books in his other franchises, which include FunJungle,
Moon Base Alpha, Charlie Thorne, and more. The Spy School series has
also been adapted into graphic novels. Gibbs has also written for
DC Comics in Bruce Wayne: Not Super.
Fedak is best known for writing the NBC series Chuck. He has also
written episodes of the CW's Legends of Tomorrow, Deception, and
Prodigal Son.
Spy School's line reads, "Ben Ripley may only be a teenager, but he's
already pegged his dream job: CIA or bust. Ben is not surprised when he
is recruited for a magnet school with a focus on science - but he's
entirely shocked to discover that the school is a front for a CIA
academy."
Disney+ has not announced any casting or release date for Spy School.
As for other young adult franchises, Disney+ is also developing an
Eragon series, along with an Animorphs TV series. The third season of
Percy Jackson & the Olympians will be released later this year.
