Toronto mayor Olivia Chow is up for re-election in 2026. We can only
hope that this miserable woman loses, as do her "allies" on city council.
I suppose if any big city mayor could be "expected" to do such a thing
it would be Chow whose socialist credentials are well burnished.
My late wife (who met him when she attended a family dinner of a good
friend of hers who was also a good friend of the Laytons) said she
seemed well to the left of her husband - who was leader of the
Canadian New Democratic Party (which is well to the left of US
Democrats though not their extreme wing) before we married years ago.
(She also knew the Broadbents due to dinners with the same family)
I once sat through a Q&A by mayoral candidates in Toronto when Layton
was running for mayor. What I saw there was the height of hypocrisy and virtue-signalling as Layton swore he was going to give every disabled
person in Toronto who worked for the city personal assistants to do any
part of the job which they couldn't do themselves due to their
disability and make every inch of city-owned property wheelchair
accessible. Furthermore, he was going to make every inch of the TTC
wheelchair accessible, including every subway station. This is the kind
of promise that would have cost BILLIONS to achieve and he made that
promise to a bunch of severely disabled people in wheelchairs who
sponsored the session and attended in significant numbers. The cynicism
of making that utterly empty promise made me despise Layton from that
moment onward. I can only assume his widow is equally comtemptable.
