I just saw this article in my news feed and, frankly, I'm shocked. It
seems like a lot of foreigners who have Canadian ancestry are suddenly
going to be Canadian citizens, including Madonna, Hilary Clinton, and
Viggo Mortenson, even though none are Canadian now. The Canadian
ancestry doesn't even have to be recent!

many many times over the years. I’ve also read that we do but the claims that we don’t far out number them.

give up their American citizenship due to US law first. But I'm pretty
sure the US accepts dual citizenships now so some of the Vietnam era
people who came to Canada have got both US and Canadian citizenship now.
But I suppose Trump could always lead the effort to change it back again
so Americans can only have one citizenship. If he makes that happen, I
hope he gives holders of multiple citizenships the choice of which ones

Did your grandfather stay in Canada long enough to get citizenship or

I just saw this article in my news feed and, frankly, I'm shocked. It's all explained in this article which seems to be from an immigration
newsletter published by a law firm:

How many of *you* are about to become Canadians? How do you feel about >>>>>>>> that?
At last a way to make Hilary (she lied about where her name came from) >>>>>>> Clinton stop running for president!
I’ve read that the United States doesn’t acknowledge dual citizenship many
many many times over the years. I’ve also read that we do but the claims >>>> that we don’t far out number them.
eventually got Canadian (or Swedish or whatever) citizenship but had to
give up their American citizenship due to US law first. But I'm pretty
sure the US accepts dual citizenships now so some of the Vietnam era
people who came to Canada have got both US and Canadian citizenship now. >>>
But I suppose Trump could always lead the effort to change it back again >>> so Americans can only have one citizenship. If he makes that happen, I
hope he gives holders of multiple citizenships the choice of which ones
to keep and which ones to give up but Trump being Trump, I suppose he
could just say that anyone who ever gave up American citizenship can't
have it back.
I have no problem with that
War? You would have been old enough to be eligible for the draft. Or did your health preclude that?
objected to the war and some might have fled the country to avoid that.
If any of that is too personal, just pretend I didn't ask. I know that
was a very difficult time for young Americans torn between patriotism,
the law, and the very human desire to survive a war that was very
unpopular in many circles.
. . .
That seems a bit harsh. Didn't you have any worries about the Vietnam
War? You would have been old enough to be eligible for the draft. Or did >your health preclude that? Either way, you must have had peers that
objected to the war and some might have fled the country to avoid that.
