Maureen Callahan breaks down the hidden messages behind the classic
Christmas tale, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," how it is a story
of bullying and exclusion by his reindeer peers, how Santa represents
a parental figure who neglects to help him, how Rudolph mirrors Billy
Joel's experience as a childhood misfit, and more.

Not going to watch that, but given that Rudolph was born in 1939 and
Joel in 1949, I'd think the mirroring would be more in the other direction.

Yeah, I've always been a little skeptical of that tale.
*Then* how the reindeer loved him.

There's a holiday special telling the story of "Olive,
the other reindeer." If I ever see it available, I'll
probably check it out to see if someone actually tackled
    this.

The story itself or the Billy Joel (non-) Connection?
The story itself /is/ about how a reindeer who is "different" turns
out to be essential. Just another example of those made-up scourges,
"liberal" and "woke" -- from 1939.
MAGA children, of course, agree with the bullies. And learn nothing.

It's odd to emphasize the word "is" there, as if someone
    had said otherwise.

Yes, it certainly does tell that tale, and apparently
Rudolph is happy because he's no longer being persecuted
for existing. Nobody ever corrects the others for
bullying him. Rudolph is expected to be happy that
they've stopped persecuting him and to forget that they
ever did. They harassed him until they suddenly needed
him, and there's not even a token apology for the past.

I find it a dubious lesson. Real life doesn't work that
    way.

MAGA children, of course, agree with the bullies. And learn nothing.

    What a silly random smear.

There's no such thing as "MAGA children," BTW. Children
can't vote. It's their parents who are or aren't MAGA.

Real life doesn't have reindeer with shiny noses either.
But your point is well-taken: this /does/ reflect an older
generation's point of view on things.
In particular, on how adults (well, men at least) behave. From this
viewpoint, accepting and enjoying the new situation is what you do.
Trying to wreak revenge is something cads do.

Right -- children /never/ pick things up from their parents. And they
/never/ believe what their parent's believe.
Teenagers, of course, are another matter entirely.

That's kind of my point. Children reflect their parents'
beliefs. When we speak of MAGA children, or Labour
children, or Jewish children, or whatever, we really mean
the children of parents with those traits.
