Catherine O'Hara Passes Away, Schitt's Creek & Home Alone Star Was 71
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Catherine O'Hara has passed away. The legendary star of Home Alone,
Schitt's Creek, and much more was 71 years old.

TMZ was first to report that O'Hara passed away on Friday, January 30,
2026. The cause of death is currently unclear.

Born in 1954, O'Hara's career in Hollywood began with the Canadian
sketch comedy series Second City Television, per Variety. That show
earned O'Hara her first PrimeTime Emmy Award, an accolade that she'd
again win in 2020 for her performance in Schitt's Creek.

O'Hara's first credited Hollywood movie is 1980's Nothing Personal.
She then went on to star in 1980's Double Negative and 1983's Rock &
Rule before playing the memorable role of Gail in Martin Scorsese's
After Hours, which was released in 1985.

Her stardom continued to rise after playing Delia Deetz in Tim
Burton's Beetlejuice, released in 1988. Just two years later, she
starred as Kevin McCallister's mom, Kate McCallister, in Home Alone.
She reprised this role again in the sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New
    York.

Following that, O'Hara voiced Sally in The Nightmare Before Christmas
and appeared in movies such as 1994's Wyatt Earp, 1996's Waiting for
Huffman, 1997's Pippi Longstocking, 2000's Best in Show, and 2004's
Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, among many other
    titles.

O'Hara's career had a major renaissance in her 60s when she starred
as Moira Rose in the popular Schitt's Creek sitcom alongside Eugene
Levy, Dan Levy, and Annie Murphy. She recently played Patty Leigh in
the first season of The Studio and Gail Lynden in Season 2 of
The Last of Us. Additionally, O'Hara reprised her Delia Deetz
character in the Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and
voiced a character in the award-winning The Wild Robot movie released
    in 2024.

ComingSoon sends condolences to Catherine O'Hara's friends and family
    at this time.

She never confessed to supporting President Trump so she has no

They probably used the most recent picture they had.

I don't see the images because ComingSoon.net uses some sort of silly
webp system that doesn't work in my old version of MacOS's Safari - I
just get little blue "?" icons. (The images do work in Firefox, but
that is a bit more cumbersome for copy-pasting to Usenet Newsgroups, so
don't use it for the articles.)

MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 with Safari 13.1.2. It's not just

It could be that you're getting a different version of the page - some websites do that for different browsers and devices (most obviously

I don't see the images because ComingSoon.net uses some sort of silly
webp system that doesn't work in my old version of MacOS's Safari - I
just get little blue "?" icons. (The images do work in Firefox, but
that is a bit more cumbersome for copy-pasting to Usenet Newsgroups, so >>> don't use it for the articles.)

What version of Safari are you using? One of my three Mac systems is
running 10.4.11 from 2006 and the pic is loading in Safari 4.1.3, looks
like it was released in 2010. Although I normally use TenForFox (a fork
of Firefox for PowerPC Macs) on that system (the pic loads in that
    browser too).

MacOS High Sierra 10.13.6 with Safari 13.1.2. It's not just
ComingSoon.net, but anywhere that uses silly webp nonsense.

It could be that you're getting a different version of the page - some websites do that for different browsers and devices (most obviously
    desktop vs mobile devices).

My most modern Mac is running the system just above that, Mojave
10.14.6, and the pic is loading fine in the Firefox browser. They like
to pick on you for some reason. :)

In the Wiki page for WebP it says "Safari added support for WebP in
September 2020 with iOS 14 and macOS Big Sur," so you're a couple of
    OS's behind.

Have you tried Firefox on your system as an alternative to Safari? It's
    been supporting WebP since 2019.

Mozilla is still updating Firefox for my Mojave system and I'm
    currently using v.115.32.Oesr (64-bit).

If you switch you can get on their esr update channel which notifies
you automatically. However I'm not sure if they're still updating for
High Sierra; I know they're not still updating for El Capitan which is
    my other Mac system.

Mojave has worked out pretty well for me, I rarely run across a site
that won't accept the latest Firefox update (namely the Chase credit
card account for some reason but I can still conduct payments with them through my own bank's site).

However Mozilla will probably stop supporting Mojave at some point
(Chrome did several years ago) and that's going to suck, I'll probably
have to upgrade to a newer system.

Good lord couldn't they have picked a more flattering pic than that.

They probably used the most recent picture they had.

Yep, as in the original reply, the images work fine in Firefox, but
that browser is a bit more cumbersome for copy-pasting the articles to
the Usenet newsgroups (Safari copies the YouTube video address, while
    Firefox doesn't).

High Sierra; I know they're not still updating for El Capitan which is

Yep, that's the same version of Firefox I have. There was a Firefox
update recently, directly through the browser's automatic check,
although I have it set to tell me and not install it automatically.

Mojave has worked out pretty well for me, I rarely run across a site
that won't accept the latest Firefox update (namely the Chase credit
card account for some reason but I can still conduct payments with them through my own bank's site).

High Sierra works fine. It's only a few websites that really don't like
old Safari, so I use Firefox for those.

I can upgrade from High Sierra to somehthing a bit newer, but it's a
bit of a hassle with programs that then need upgrading / replacing. I'm
also very short on drive space at the moment, so the installer would
complain anyway, until I can find time to offload / get rid of some
    stuff.

However Mozilla will probably stop supporting Mojave at some point
(Chrome did several years ago) and that's going to suck, I'll probably
have to upgrade to a newer system.

I do have an older version of Chrome, but only use it very
occassionally for one website that weirdly doesn't like either Safari
    or Firefox. :-\

I always modify any articles I get off the Web and paste to Usenet
beforehand with a text editor. I like Tex-Edit (not to be confused with Apple's Text Edit, the developer of Tex-Edit lives in Texas). It has a
feature that you can easily "clean up" the "smart quotes" and other
things you often get on the Web that don't transfer well to Usenet.

However Mozilla will probably stop supporting Mojave at some point

I only use Chrome for PayPal, for some reason that site has a problem
with Firefox's cookies and I don't want to go through the hassle of
deleting all my Firefox cookies and log-ins and starting from scratch
(and it still might not work for all I know). PayPal refuses to let me
send out invoices to customers with Firefox but I can with Chrome.
