Indeed. Let's make sure that we don't misquote his diplomatically
tactful comments about other countries. There are a lot of good things
to be said about the US, but it ain't the Utopia many think it is. A
number of years ago we headed south for vacation road trip and found
ourselves in Washington DC. It was long enough ago that we were able to
drive past the White House. A couple blocks down the road I found myself
in the wrong lane had to make a left turn and ended up in a really seedy neighbourhood. We went past a convenience store with a bunch of cop
cars in the parking lot and a body on the ground. Class act so close to
the residence of the president and the capitol buildings. In my books
that would make it a shit hole country.

Shithole Canuckistan has bigass shooting in their Parliament as well as
    prior bombing incident.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_shootings_at_Parliament_Hill

The 2014 shootings at Parliament Hill occurred on 22 October 2014, at Parliament Hill in Ottawa. Corporal Nathan Cirillo, a Canadian soldier, Afghanistan veteran,[7] and reservist on ceremonial sentry duty, was fatally shot at the National War Memorial, followed by an attack on the nearby Centre Block parliament building, where members of the Parliament of Canada were attending caucuses. The attack ended with a shootout when the perpetrator, 32-year-old Michael Zehaf-Bibeau, ran inside the parliament buildings and was shot 31 times by six Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers and died on scene.[8][9][10] Following the shootings, the downtown core of Ottawa was placed on lockdown and majority of schools in Ottawa were on lockdown while police searched for any potential additional threats.[11][1][12]

Classified by the RCMP as a terrorist act,[1][13] it was the most
serious security breach at Parliament Hill since the 1966 parliament bombing.[14] The attack gained international attention and raised
concerns about the effectiveness of police actions to prevent terrorist attacks, and the security measures in place at federal and provincial legislatures.

I didn't see the second half because we were driving. Americans on
various forums act as if a 4-1 loss is a total disaster and
humiliation, and the US should give up on this sport altogether. But
if you're 2-1 down in an all or nothing game and time is running out,
you're going to throw everything into attack, at the expense of your
defense. If it works, you score. If it doesn't, they do. It would be
pointless to continue playing defensively to protect a 2-1 scoreline,
because 2-1 means you lose and you're out of the tournament.

Anyway, good that Trump's/Infantilo's corrupt intervention didn't

I get a kick out of arm chair athletes who sit around drinking beer and cheering their teams on and then consider themselves to be athletic. I
can't say that I was jock in high school. I played football for a few
years of it and I always hated running and skating. I was involved in
canoe racing for a while. After I finished my schooling my fitness
routine was pretty well limited to hiking and canoeing and kayaking
later on. In my 50s I took up equestrian jumping which was a lot of fun
and after retirement I got into pickleball. Meanwhile the big time
sports fans' exercise was limited bending their elbows and occasionally standing up to cheer for their team.

Traitor? I did not vilify my countrymen, I stated a fact. The POTUS
had no business getting involved with a decision made by a sport
    league.
President Trump wasn't _the only one_ 'involved' though, was he? https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/fifa-turned-folarin-balogun-suspension-153031186.html
"Indeed, FIFA is now in over its head.
//France have appealed to the governing body in the hopes of having
Michael Olise's yellow card rescinded, and UK Prime Minister Keir
Starmer reportedly intervened to prevent Sunday's Round of 16 game
between Mexico and England from being moved to earlier in the day.//
Trump's media appearance on Monday morning confirming he spoke to
Infantino has also made things worse for FIFA as he essentially
admitted to government interference, or at least lobbying, during the
World Cup. FIFA has historically opposed political leaders from
intervening in international soccer with litigious vigor.
The football at the 2026 FIFA World Cup has been brilliant.
Every game has featured storylines, narratives, and thrilling action to
prop up the matches as best as humanly possible. And yet still, FIFA
has managed to cast a dark cloud over the competition by extending this
    saga to unreasonable lengths.
As the snowball swells to unmanageable size, this kind of scenario is
usually reserved for children who must learn valuable life lessons as
they grow and understand the world around them. Yet here we are, the
world's most popular sport forced to reckon with the exceedingly
uncomfortable reality that they've taken it too far."
    Context for Trump's actions:
"The U.S. striker was, by most accounts, wrongly sent off for serious foul play on the hour mark of their 2-0 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Round of 32. It's not the first time a referee has made a poor decision, and it certainly won't be the last.
It would have left Balogun suspended for the following game: their upcoming Round of 16 match against Belgium, one in which the two teams are believed to be evenly matched. Balogun's absence would surely be felt.
FIFA could have left it there. An injustice, sure, but one that is somewhat commonplace in sport. It would have been a subplot to the game, but not the overarching narrative. A potential excuse after a possible defeat, maybe, but the U.S. has the players to make up for it.
Then, the snowball began rolling down the hill.
Without an appeal process — as most competitions feature — written into
the World Cup regulations, FIFA had to get creative. "
As usual Eddy P, all you can see is TDS, in everything!
You can be sure Belgium was really first up and it showed. Trump
saved one player that failed to score. You see things like that
where a parent complains at a Little League game.
    Regardless:

    Final score:
    USA 1
    Belgium 4
    Trump 0

Buncha guys playing kickball on a football field. Who cares?
The President of the United States cares! He cared enough to cry to
the FIFA head to rescind a red card on a player.

    Make any appreciable difference?

    No.

Basta with the irrational TDS, old man.

There's NOTHING irrational about so-called TDS

There's much more reason to doubt the sanity of Trump's supporters.

The same could be said for any sport. Grownups playing children's
    games.

i dont watch sports because its not interesting enough.

In the 70s I watched entire tennis matches on Sunday afternoons. Now
    you'd have to pay me.

Should we all sit on our butts and play solitaire?

Should we sit on our butts and watch other people play sports?

I know this will come as a shock to you, but instead of watching
sports, you can play sports yourself.

I'm not shocked. I'm not much of a team person (as you might
imagine), but I played hand-egg with some of the guys in high
school, and football with some of my dorm-mates in college.

My wife did that. Of course, Jimmy Connors had to be playing. Later,

I remember Jimmy Connors, but especially Björn Borg and my

No, no, it was Bjorn Borg the women were watching. Jimmy Connors was
    too angry.
