• Oar and Iron Lunch today

New restaurant in town and my granddaughter took me out for lunch today.

Happened to be 72 degrees so we sat outside to enjoy our meal. Nice
place, interesting menu and quite a drink menu.

I had the lobster bisque and salad, she had the Margherita flatbread.
That was quite large, we both brought a couple of slices home.

Looks nice. If I went down there and drove your granddaughter to that restaurant do you think she would buy my dinner? That is a very
interesting looking menu. I was salivating as I scrolled though it but
then I saw the octopus and it turned into a full fledged drool. It is
puzzling that the mussel price is more than the octopus. Octopus tends
to be pricey here while mussels tend to be cheap.

Octopus tends to be pricey here while mussels tend to be cheap.

Basic economics of supply and demand vs. production:

    https://www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/article/demand-grows-to-ban-octopus-farms-in-canada/

Over 11,000 people have signed a petition demanding the Canadian government ban octopus farms from opening in the country.

In February, federal Green Party leader Elizabeth May sponsored a petition from the BC SPCA calling for a ban on the aquacultural practice.

The BC SPCA says there are currently no octopus farms operating in Canada, but with a growing appetite for the delicacy around the world, the worry is that the country's coasts could become hotbeds for farming.

"We're really concerned about these animals' welfare on farms," said
Melissa Speirs, the BC SPCA manager of farm animal welfare.

    AI Overview
Sustainable Mussel Farming - Global Impact - ASC
Canada's mussel farming, a significant shellfish sector, is
concentrated in Eastern Canada, especially Prince Edward Island (PEI),
which produces about 80% of the nation's supply using sustainable
rope-growing methods in clean, monitored waters, with farms also in
Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, and Quebec, and a growing
presence on the West Coast (BC). Farmers cultivate blue mussels (and
some Mediterranean hybrids) for 18-24 months, harvesting them
year-round for fresh and frozen markets

Sadly however that bisque may well be the same as sold to hundreds of
thousands of restaurants by Sysco - a massive food purveyor giant in
    this nation.

They even do specific burger patties like smash, slider, wide, thick,
and so on...no hand forming necessary!

    AI Overview

    Lobster Bisque Recipe
Sysco's lobster bisque is a popular foodservice item, often sold as a
base (like their Sysco Imperial Lobster Base) for restaurants to create
rich, creamy soups with real lobster, butter, and spices, providing a convenient, "made-from-scratch" taste, though chefs often enhance it
with extra lobster for a premium touch. It's known for its
reddish-orange color, buttery notes, and ability to form a velvety
texture when blended, making it a versatile ingredient for soups,
    chowders, and sauces.

And it would be hard to tell if his was locally made or trucked in.

Thanks for doing what you do for her. Most disabled people don't want
to be a burden and they really appreciate help from others. Even their relatives can be selfish, so they are appreciative.

If you didn't pay, your grandchildren probably wouldn't take you out to
lunch. Next time, let them pay. See if they invite you to lunch again :)
